Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I don’t rate starling as high as others, he’s a poor man’s Cook and only a level above Levi imo. However he’s about a million miles ahead of Turpin and Walters so I wouldn’t be unhappy with the signing.
Agreed... I feel raiders lose momentum at times when he's out there because he gets lost on where to pass it. He quite often misses the ptb as well because he's looking around at the backline instead of focussing on the ruck.

Also feel like he doesnt run it as much as he used to.

If Billy put Mam out of the team that's a sackable offence, I don't see it happening.
He already did in Rounds 1, 5 and 6. Unless you believe he needed to sit out Rounds 1-10 to be "ready." He should've been our 6 from the start.

If we're getting a genuine 9, Kevvie may need to shift Billy into his preferred position of 6 to keep him in the team.
Is it a must that Billy has to be in the 17 next season at the expense of team cohesion? If Kev is all for this, then sadly I don’t want Kev & Billy at the club.
I never had or will have anything against the father son duo. They are true Broncos at heart & I admire them. But, “team” comes first & Billy must not be prioritized over Mam @6 and if we do get someone better @9, then that someone must be given the priority. Enough of picking Billy in the 17 blindly for mine.

For me the biggest red flag was in the preseason when Billy did an interview talking about his move to the broncos and having his dad as his coach. When asked if he would get special treatment he denied it and said something along the lines of “Kev has been up front with me and said that if I don’t work hard and play my best then someone will take the 6 from me”

The point was meant to be that he is treated like everyone else but the issue is that it meant Billy was the default 6, that it was his to lose. Pure entitlement. It’s like a rich kid talking about how his upbringing was tough because if he didn’t get good grades his parents would cut his holiday in the Hamptons short.

I recall that interview and it didn’t sit with me well. It sounded like he was signed to play a specific position. With the way we went towards the backend of the season, I hope DD & Ikin have a long & serious chat with Kev about his mind boggling Tuesday Team lists & shit bench use.

It's not the same when he didn't make his debut yet(and wasn't playing well in Qcup at the time he did make his debut mind you), but now that he has and we have seen how he has handled it with most of the season it's a completely different story.

Making up history- Mam’s form didn’t warrant it.
Fake news. Mam was the standout of the trials, and scored two tries in Round 1 of the Qcup. Walters went quite well at dummy half in the trials but he was a dud in the halves, which bore out in the season proper.

He was ready Round 1.

The last thing we need is to go through the off-season without our spine settled. This off season was a debacle with the 4 way race for the 6 jersey that Kev didn’t really settle on until about round 14 before chucking it in come round 25.

A great coach once said the key to coaching is to pick your halves early and to back them until the end. Fair enough to explore the player market now but come day 1 of the pre-season you know who your squad is and the spine should be picked and backed until a point where a change is absolutely required.

Mamm wasn't ready for first grade in round 1. Walters made the correct decision to start Kelly and Gamble in the halves.
The stint in Q cup did him the world of good. Plus, he fizzed out majorly at the back end of the year which is pretty natural for a rookie half so him starting later in the season actually helped his progression alot more than throwing him straight into the deep end immediately.
