Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Gotta remember he will be at least 300k salary for the remainder of the season + any release payments if he moves. Then there will be the NRL auditor having to approve future contract value to be at least the same or close to what hes on now PA for the next season. If the dragons board are anything to go by - they will probably request a 500k release payment to piss another team off and make it hard by wanting player swap. He still has a valid contract.

We are only talking short term.

If he wants a realistic shot at winning a premiership, and in the process restore his mental health over his GF blunder, we are the only logical choice. Particularly if returning to QLD is a priority. He's not going to win one at the Titans or Dolphins. The Storm, Souths and Panthers don't need him. We're top of the table, with our only weakness being at dummy half. We are it.

Penrith would love him at 9 for the rest of the year. It would fucking stink though.

Penrith would take him in a heartbeat. He’s a big upgrade on Kenny who just isn’t that good. They look better when Luke comes on. If they could get a Hunt/Luke partnership, I don’t see them not going for that.

I’d hate it if he came here this year. Absolute bollocks that it could potentially happen. I’d happily take him next season but this season it would stink to high heaven.

I reckon it’d disrupt the team too. Just leave the guys who have got us this far, not a jump ship mercenary who deserted us for more money after he absolutely cost us the GF with his stupid penalty, terrible kicking game and dropped bomb.

I'd take him for the rest of the year and play him at 14. I absolutely do not want him on a multi-year contract if the club thinks Mozer is close to being ready for FG. Barring injury, Hunt isn't displacing Mam or Arey in the spine, either: that could hurt his ego and reduce the chances of him coming.

If he does come to use for the remainder of this year then I'd happily let him go to the Titans in 2024 for his retirement dollars like so many other Broncos jrs have done in the past.

Hate to be a pessimistic **** but I will anyway. He ain’t fucken coming here to play 9. Would love him to but it is so unrealistic that the Dragons would release him to go to a club to play 9 when he has thrown his toys out of the cot about playing it at the Dragons. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. As much as I love Ben he has gone about it in a really cunty way by doing it in the middle of the season as the captain, halfback and best player in that team by the length of a donkeys dick. Also have no interest in having him beyond this year so I would be willing to do a TPJ type thing when he left here to go off and retire elsewhere after a premiership push.

I'm not going to say no to him for 250k but man it's a crud rule. It shouldn't be rest of year value, their contract should be their value on the cap for that year no matter when they sign.
Ye it's crazy that a team can do this
In a salary capped comp with the premiers decided by a finals series.

We know he isn’t going to come but it shows the stupidity of this mercenary rule that he realistically and legally can.

Rothfield says he got a text from Hunt first thing this morning:

“Hi Buzz, can confirm the club has been made aware of my request for a release.”
Says that there's talk he doesn't want to return to the club after Origin - that he's played his last game for the Dragons. Officially, he's been refused.
Why on earth would he text Rothfield about this stuff?
