Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

From what I am hearing, Haas is as good as gone.

Would love to have egg on my face, if wrong.

Sad if its true. If he ends up at the Doggies after he says he wants to win premierships with his mates, he had better hope they keep TPJ and they improve out of sight. If he leaves for Union, i can understand it.

no one has any idea what Haas is doing.

first everyone was certain he was as good as gone to the Roosters

then everyone was certain he was as good as gone to Union

Now everyone was certain he is as good as gone to the Bulldogs (funnily enough for the same reason everyone thought he was gone to the Roosters)

I think the media even had him staying at one point.

so it will be interesting to see which club everyone thinks he'll eb as good as gone to next

To play devil's advocate, if he did want to stay - why hasn't the deal been done yet? There's been plenty of time. It was 12 months ago his agent asked for a release. Surely if he was staying, he'd have re-signed by now.

The longer it drags out, the more likely he's gone IMO. If he goes to another club I will be downright livid. Totally understand if he chases the money in union though. You can't tell me any other club in the comp can offer a package as good as the Broncos (including intangibles like his mates, etc). Unless perhaps he wants to get away from his family...

Can we not say the exact same about like a third of the squad?

Reynolds, Walters, Piakura, Hoeter, Mam, Riki, Madden and Capewell all come off contract at the same time as Haas.

If Haas goes, we won't have any choice but to go to market for a couple of decent, experienced props. Tino should absolutely be one of them. Not sure about signing Fifita, especially on his current value. If Capewell retires then yes, go for it.

It would suck as just as the team is starting to gather steam, all of a sudden we're a premiership threat that can't hang on to its best players and it becomes a far bigger distraction than it should be.

Seems strange we've locked away some of the lesser lights already in Arthars, Taupau, Jensen? and Sailor but only Carrigan and Mariner in terms of the priority re-signings.

I'd wager that those lesser lights you mention are far less complex contract to negotiate than the priority signings

No doubt you are right but would be nice to some movement on one or two of the guys Kimlo Kimlo mentioned.

true.

one of the disadvantages of the leaks being plugged i suppose. we now actually have to wait until things have been completed before we know the progress

Oh believe me, I am not complaining about that at all, I love that there are no leaks now. I don't want to hear pointless and baseless rumours, I want to see actual signing announcements. This is why I couldn't care less about reports of 'super secret' meetings with guys like Farnworth, those gossip columns are pointless. I want to see signing announcements from the club.

It's crazy to think about it but Haas will be in his 8th NRL year in 2025 so is technically eligible for veterans allowance for his next deal.

These big contracts take a helluva lot longer to negotiate, need to make sure there's cap space, need to negotiate things like club affiliated sponsorships, car allowances, back and forth in any specific clauses.

It's easy to re-sign someone like Jensen because you give him 400k a year, no clauses, and no extras, done.

I'm not worried at all. Come November 1st if he and Mam haven't signed I'll be worried but both seem incredibly happy in their football so I really think both will extend.

I'm surprised (but happy) the media haven't made more noise about Mam.

ZOMG: I grew a penis overnight.
welcome to the team
