Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Dogs are reportedly going hard for Tino. Strange thing to do if Haas was a done deal.

The fact that they are going hard for both Haas & Tino is a concern, because it will be massive egg on their faces if they end up with neither. They are going to want to land one of them, and will probably break the bank to get one. My bet would be in Tino, because $1 mill a year will get him. Haas will require a lot more, and there is also his premiership aspirations.

I think titans would put $1m on the table to retain him... he's super important to their team now.

$1m under the current salary cap is more like $800k on the old cap... and I think that's what Tino was on anyway.

Their issue would come if Dfifi also wants to bump up to $1m... he did just sign a reduced contract, but he's looking every bit the best second rower in the comp right now, whereas when he re-signed there were question marks about his consistency.

Can titans play to a decent standard with that much money invested in two forwards? Possibly.

They haven't exactly got any other $1m players running around in their team. Their spine is young, but not yet demanding $1m a season (will they ever get to that level??)... AJ and Campbell are locked up... Boyd is potentially just a placeholder. Foran is ageing and wouldn't be on much. Bhunt if he comes is ageing so it's not a long term investment or hit to the cap. They've also got young promising guys ready to come through like Weaver, Bryant, Kini, etc. who can offer value for money during Tino and Dfifi's high money contract periods

For Haas, I could see his management now wanting $1.2m... that starts to become quite high when we're talking about a prop, but he's starting to influence games when he's on the field... which was a previous question mark.

We also have guys that will need upgrading to near $1m a season... Walsh being the obvious one. Mam will be needing an upgrade soon as well, not $1m a season upgrade though.

Can dogs seemingly endless salary cap compensate a $1.2m prop??? not sure, but they seem to be in for everyone and having no issue throwing cash at role players like Kiks, Crichton, JAC, TPJ, etc.

Honestly would have thought that a club sponsor offering 3rd party's was in breach of the rules?
It is... but it would be played off as the player paying them as an investment opportunity i.e. not a TPA.

The dodgyness around it is whether the player is paying to the actual valuation or getting anything special specifically for joining the club.

Is the same level of investment available to anyone in the public space and under the same terms i.e. valuation, return on investment, etc. ... OR are they proposing a bespoke arrangement specifically to him and only if he joins the club.

It's really no different to the dodgy deals flagged around Prince at titans (I think??) where he bought a house at a significantly reduced valuation... or something along those lines.

Bit that i was put off by is that he will buy the player out if he is not happy with it,nothing stopping him paying overs on what the share of the hotels is worth

Regardless of it's dodginess (which is definitely is), TPA deals aren't allowed to be on the prevision that a player joins a certain club. So for someone to be offering this if he joins the Bulldogs, it has to be included in the cap.

My bet though is that this is a snipe to the Storm and anyone else already doing these deals, so if the NRL refuses it, they get to point at the other clubs and say "how come they are allowed?".

Excellent. Now the NRL should be asked to explain why it's okay for other clubs to offer similar deals. This is going to be fun to watch because with any luck Gould will be using his platform to ask the question.

We all know both players will stay with the Titans so why bother with this perpetual outrage over shit that never happens?

Seems strange we've locked away some of the lesser lights already in Arthars, Taupau, Jensen? and Sailor but only Carrigan and Mariner in terms of the priority re-signings.
I'd sign the lesser lights also to free up enough room for the biggest signing of them all.

They're not. Not all of them anyway. They're just counted towards the cap and they have to be approved by the NRL. One reason why some contracts take longer than others to be signed because the approval process for TPA's can be lengthy.

The TPA's that aren't counted towards the cap are ones sourced by the player/player agents and are sourced through parties that have no affiliation with the club.
