Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I want to see how he performs in a finals game before throwing crazy money at him, origin is a comparison to finals footy and haas doesn’t lift, unlike carrigan who finds that extra gear.
I disagree. He’s excellent for NSW, he’s just criminally under-utilised through poor Coaching. If I’m the Blues Coach then Haas is getting 65-80 minutes a game and Brisbane can be damned how gassed he is afterwards.

Fittler for no reason at all plays both Haas and Murray like he’s managing their workload through a 27 game season. The man is an imbecile.

Move him on and get Tino. It's obvious our offer isn't good enough to keep him happy or he would have signed by now. We don't need another contract saga with him. There are other options so let's look after ourselves instead of waiting around.
That’s the passionate and more ‘Brisbane-centric’ way to look at it, which is fine for us as fans, but the cooler and more measured, more objective approach is to see a manager waiting for everyone to submit their best and final offers before signing perhaps the most important contract of his whole career.

Rushing right now to sign only benefits the Broncos and if that was the advice his manager was giving him he’d honestly be acting against his client’s best financial interests and basically doing a shit job.

You can say let’s pull the offer and get Tino, but he’s going to cost the same or probably more given we’ll have to likely outspend the Titans to get him, and if that’s the kind of cash we have up our sleeve then you have to wonder why we didn’t just offer to give it to Haas in the first place?

I don't think we need to get into a bidding war for him. There is a player on the market who is a very good option.

My opinion has always been the same, he is always saying he is happy and wants to win a premiership here. All he needs to do is give us a figure and see if we can match it. This has probably been done and it's not good enough for him so he is going to market. We are just the safety net now in case nobody else stumps up the money. Once November 1 comes around, we should pull our offer and chase Tino imo. If we wait around we miss out on a top quality forward.

Look what more can we offer? We wouldn't be messing him around and he has continually messed us around. I'd love to keep him but we need to do what is best for our club and to me, I reckon we should make a bold play to pick up both Tino and Fifita. If that means we let Haas go next year, so be it, every other team would jump over themselves to pick him up on full wage if he is released.

Now at the same time, we need to be very careful how public all of this goes but seriously, I really hope we are making a massive play to bring both Tino and Fifita home at the expense of Haas if need be. Can also not renew Capewell and a mix of that plus losing Herbie and Flegs should mean we have a bit left over to make all of this happen and upgrade a couple of existing contracts.

Yes, Payne has well and truly paid his dues at the Broncos, and this paycheck is likely to be the biggest of his life. If his agent doesn't play the field, he's a pretty shit agent and not doing the best by his client. The Broncos should expect to have to bid handsomely for his services, but they also go in knowing they have history, he has friends at the club, family in the catchment and they can probably land him for slight unders.

We did manage to land Patty under similar pressure, though I can't see them waving the captaincy under Payne's nose.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard our offer was $6 million over 5 years for Payne. If he's going to market hes got offers over that elsewhere imo and isn't willing to take less money to stay here. If he can get bigger money then good luck to him.

he has continually messed us around.
No he hasn't. There was some agent-driven kerfuffle last season that's now a distant memory. His performances on the field are peerless, gaining him multiple club awards and his dealings with the press over his contracts have been faultless. All this hysteria over him leaving has been whipped up by the media (which is fine, that's what they do) and fans reacting to it. But back in the real world, he's with us for another two Grand Finals at the very least.

but seriously, I really hope we are making a massive play to bring both Tino and Fifita home at the expense of Haas if need be.
And you reckon Badel is histrionic. There is zero fact in this.

Sounds like Payne wants to stay but his management want him to hit the open market to bump his price up.
We have to put a deadline on it so we can have a chance at getting a replacement (Tino).

While true ... the timing doesn't work for us.

Haas does have a contract for 2024, and I doubt we can afford 3 × clost to $1 million forwards.

I still see us retaining him if he stays in the NRL. Not only are we heading in the direction of a premiership, but he's playing footy with his mates and close to his family.

The only potential threat would be if a desperate club offers him ridiculous money.

Realistically we'll offer him $1 million - $1.2 million, and I can't see a sensible club offering more. (Their offers will be very similar)

IMO, either he's ruled out European Rugby, or the reported $1.8 million per year offer never eventuated ... because he doesn't need to wait to November to sign with them

I see this as positive because:
Gus is chasing every player who’s running out of contract while doing so, he may not get go Hass. As his manager stated, Haas’s preference is to stay in Brisbane. It’s not that we are offering him only peanuts but highest a prop can get & the highest offer the club made in history. Given how Broncos looked after him, I hope common sense prevails & he extends with us.

In hindsight though, DD’s smartness is the need of the hour. Should we wait for Haas or look for alternatives 🤷‍♂️.

Tino was on 880k on his last deal pre-cap rise. He's on more money than Haas. With the cap rise Tino is probably on 1.1 to 1.15m, so we'd need to offer something like 1.25 to get him to leave unless he has a secret desire to be a Bronco and relinquish the captaincy.

Or if he wants to win a premiership. We look closer to that than the Titans do and especially with the multiple unknowns of Hasler coming on board.
