Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

If I chose to be involved in recruitment for this club, which I am overqualified for, I would make Luai an offer on November 1 to partner Mam in the halves long-term

Maybe we should have kept Dearden

I see him as a running half (and supporting act), not the main guy, a game managing organising half that we'll ideally be able to secure to eventually replace Reynolds

Quality 7s are as rare as hen's teeth. The few that are around are mostly old - Hunt, DCE, Reynolds and the outlier, Cleary. The only other one I can see who looks a genuinely good 7 is Lachlan Lam.

If anything has been proven recently it’s that halfbacks peak really late in their careers.

DCE, Hunt, Reyno, Johnson, and Townsend are in career best form. Benji finished a much more complete player. Cronk became elite after 30. Moses is only now really fulfilling his potential. Cleary is the only player that bucks the trend and some argument for Hughes. Even Hynes is showing that he has far to go.

A smart recruiter would be identifying this and would be looking to snap up someone another clubs hard work rather than waiting 10 years for a rookie to peak. Again the only exception is if you land generational talent like Cleary and want to hold onto him.

I wouldn’t be looking for guys in their early 20’s to replace Reyno (although you need them for depth). I would rather the club look for guys hitting the 250+ games, 30 years old mark even if they aren’t superstars.

I couldn’t be bothered to try and find who those players may be in 2 years time though.

Never wanted him to go in the first place. Always thought he would get there, he was just pitched in at the wrong time with a terrible level of expectation placed on him.

IIRC it was Dingdong who thought he was ready for first grade and, when given the chance, showed how completely unready he was. Went to the Cows and I think there was an impressive losing streak going on when he played. It was his own agitation that lead to us not wanting to re-sign him.

I'm not sure on the official story as I know kev told him he could look elsewhere - what came first I dunno.

I agree when he was here he wasn't pulling up trees but not many were in that period. The losing streak while kinda funny wasn't really reflective of his performances or ability.

Been a fan of him for a while tho. Kid can play. Just needed some belief.

There’s a few boys at our club with petty abysmal early career win/loss ratios. Wouldn’t be laughing too hard at Tom

I wasn't laughing, just stating facts. It does imply that he certainly was in WAY too early under Seemoron.

I remember when a lot of people were predicting Hunt to not get any better as a halfback and now he's one of the best in the game.

He was promoted too early but more than that, it was into 2 burning trash heaps of teams. He remained fairly composed despite one of the worst introductions to first grade you could experience as a young half. He will be a fantastic half in his late 20s. I have little doubt. Short of Cleary, he would probably be my number 1 option as our long term halfback replacement.

Yep, i agree. Wasnt great of us throwing him in the way we did.

It's called the seibold special. Blood a rookie, ruin him then go and buy an average half that's always been touted on potential instead of ability. First it was brodie croft and now it's luke Brooke's. He should book his ticket to europe early.

I actually think it was a matter of Doodoo chucking the shits, demanding a shot at the halfback spot or he was going to look elsewhere. Coach caved and he shit the bed, and despite officially claiming he was in our future plans, we didn't bother fighting to keep him.

I don't think Timtam is regretting his decision though, he gets to play for a team that hasn't had to work a set out from their own end since about 2014, and everytime Ming has a cry the NSWRL shift the goalposts for them.
