Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I thought at some point Bennett said he was confident of having Munster for 2023???
Wayne's been having a bet each way all along. Here's how he put it at one point:

“I’m not overly confident, but I’m not underly confident.

Dobbo, on the other hand...

He probably was at one point. Even Munster pretty much confirmed he was out the door then he changed his mind. I think his words were more something like they were hopeful of having him there and working on it. Pretty ambiguous I suppose.

They were working on getting a contracted player to break contract a year early despite the player’s club voicing their disapproval ?

God knows, but they never said they were trying to get anyone to break a contract. Like i said it was an ambiguous statement you take whatever way suits the argument. Could have just been the Dolphins were working on getting a deal prepared for November 1st.

I dont know what the answer is to stop the talk from everywhere. If you asked Kevvie if he would like to see Cleary at the Broncos he is hardly going to say no, then that will get twisted by the media into " Broncos chase Cleary " so it wouldnt be as simple as trying to shut down all talk. I'm not sure there is even a system you could possibly put in place to stop players getting tapped up anyway. Technically, i believe we could ask Nathan Cleary if 3 million a year would be enough to get him to sign for the Broncos in 2028. We couldnt talk about anything before that and we would be breaking no rules.

You really need to learn how to read. The topic is players requesting releases. He asked, and he was granted a release. No need to correct me. You're always wrong, anyway.
Please elaborate - he was given permission to negotiate but never found a suitor and was never released. That was the case, wasn’t it?

He asked for a release from his contract to talk to other clubs. It was granted. But he stayed. Following this thread. The topic is players ASKING for release from contract:

Maybe no other club wanted/needed him. Maybe, because of Paix's injury, he was able to stay and play. Not relevant to what we were talking about. He ASKED for a release.

Well, you’re taking the word of a Fox reporter over Ikin. Ikin is quoted as saying he was given permission to negotiate. That’s different to being released.

Yes, it's the same thing. The "release" is from the terms of his contract, which would preclude him offering himself to another club during that contracted period. The club agreed to let him go if someone else would pick up the tab, or whatever. That's a release.

It means the club would continue to honour the contract to pay him up until the point he signs with another club. It does not mean they rip up the contract and he no longer works there.

Yes, I'm aware this is different from releasing a bird from a cage, so to speak. They didn't kick him to the curb, which you're right, is the colloquial use of the word outside of contracts.

Zero Tackle reporting the Dogs are willing to pay half of Corey Allan's wage for next season which means we'd only have to pay 250k. Should we be interested?

no.

we've got better options for all positions he plays (including depth options)

Its not a release - if he was released, how could he have played all those games for the broncos after this?

He ASKED for a release. The subject was ASKING for a release. Everything else is irrelevant.
I have no idea what semantics you guys are arguing about because cbf reading it all but Turpin absolutely asked for a release and it was originally granted before being revoked once we needed him.

They don't seem to understand the difference between asking for release from certain terms of a contract and being released from employment or something. Fucked if I know. It was in response to you mentioning players who'd asked (not all granted) for various forms of release.

Another example is Brenko. He was released from his contract's restrictions, but played out the season.

Apparently I'm dead on some hill over all this. View is nice from up here though.

he never asked for a release ... he asked for permission to negotiate with other clubs. there is a difference.

If he could have found a club that would take him ... THEN he would have asked from a release from his contract, which would have been granted.

I admit it is a technicality, but we should always strive for accuracy 😁

we also never revoked a release ... even if he had asked for one (which he didn't) ... we didn't need to as no other club made him an offer
