Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Courier Mail reporting that Souths Logan Magpies hooker Callum Eggerling will be on a train and trial deal for the upcoming pre-season.

anyone know much about him?

Does Scotty Satrler get paid per comment I wonder!? He always seems to bob up as the 'random quote bloke'. Him and Matt Rogers. Love the Sattler family but by christ young Scott really knows how to jibber.
Sattler is mates with Tate. Probably just knows Brent would be keen on the job and is giving him an endorsement. Nothing to see here.

The club has put the process of filling the new Head of Football role in the hands of a recruitment agency.
That seems odd... the role should be about football IQ and the amount of contacts they have within the industry.

Confirmed he does.

Smart hooker- just won the Magpies academic award- works really hard and just does whatever role Hunt gives him.

Always first guy dropped off when someone comes back from Broncos like Paix in 23 but does his job. Had a really good combination with Mozer.

100% Hunt’s choice.

He has a radio sports show, he has no choice but to talk about the Broncos.
I wish they would stop. No matter how often I text in about cricket season we just keep going back to the Broncos and that’s just depressing at the moment

Is that how that works? The QCUP coaches get to pick who gets train and trial deals at the Broncos?

Yep, they want to reward their players and also use it as a recruitment tool. We can get you a pre-season at the Broncos. Broncos trust them and hope to uncover something.

It’s how Storm got Hynes. He got recruited from Cutters to Falcons with a Storm pre-season. It’s happened a lot.

Latrell signed with Souths and got a Bronco pre-season.

If Ezra is gone after this be it our choice or forced by NRL, I would be looking at Bevan French.

Hunt obviously would be first choice but French is 28 about to be 29 and looks ready to come back to NRL, has tonnes experience at this point and would be an ideal partner to bring Black into the team post Reyno and be around for a few more years than Hunt likely would.

I’ve quietly thought this too, most like for like player out there.

Alamoti, one of the best players in the gf.... quietly re-signed for the 4 times premiers.

Harry Grant, best number 9 in the game... quietly took up his option for the grand finalists....

Far more in demand are the players from the club who finished 12th!

The salary cap is a rort, driven by media and handshake deals on the side...

The game would be FAR better off without it. Prove me wrong...

Players want to play for the better teams, so it is less likely to get them out of good systems. Then factor in side betting agency shares that are laughably above board, you can't compete with that.

In terms of our players, you've go a couple of factors at play:
1. Our R&R team has a pretty long record of incompetence
2. Managers of our players know our players get overvalued compared to others because we are the most exposed out of any team
3. Our club is in turmoil, so our gun players look gettable
4. A lot of our superstars have just come of career worst years which means other teams know the abilities these guys have and will be willing to take the risk on potential superstars because you don't usually get them out of the better clubs

Hard to believe that Alamoti re-signed with the Panthers, the Bulldogs discard that was deemed washed up at 20 just 12 months ago and the Panthers have resurrected him. He was playing NSW CUP in August- If I was him, I would have wrestled the contract out of their hands too. Hard call to make.

If any club was waiting for November 1 to see if Grant took up his option hoping to sign him, they are idiots.

Any player manager just uses our club to get more $$ for their player. We are used to make other people successful while being a rabble on and of the field.

Not overly surprising that players are happy to re-sign at the 2 best teams in the comp with extremely stable rosters and coaching.

It's not a rort, it doesn't doesn't work because it can't work.

A salary cap can't work without a draft, it's as simple as that. The cap is a complimentary mechanism of a draft to stop the hording of talent but without the draft it has no way of dispersing talent fairly. To have it without a draft is pointless, but we are talking about the NRL so this shouldn't be surprising.

Without a draft teams cannot get off the bottom because they can't get access to the best players without having to pay massive overs. There will always be some examples where a club can rise up in spite of it but that is planet aligning stuff where they picked up discards, or maybe over-paid for talent but they all end up working together really well either through coaching or just things clicking, but those are exceptions and often not sustainable. With a draft the worst teams get the first shot at the best talent coming through so if they scout and pick wisely the have the tools to improve.
