Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

I think Hunt is perfect get on a lower than he is on contract. You get him for 12+ weeks playing 6 and then you tell him he has to finish out the season at 9 which can be anywhere from 12-0 games and then finish off his career at 7 after Reyno. Cheeky mutual option for a 3rd year if we want to sweeten the deal. Gets us up until when Black should be about ready.

Edit:

Zero Tackle says he's only signed until the end of 2025, my bad. Just checked and he is indeed signed until the end of 2026.

Remarkable that Zero Tackle only ever gets used for contract lengths and they can't even get that right.

Where?

That is a ridiculous price tag ...

I get that he's been on over a million a year for a long time, but he is 35.

To compare we're getting Reynolds (who IMO is a much better half) for $500k next year. Both players are the same age as well.

One is an Origin and International player. The other isn’t. That affects value. Reyno also took a pay cut instead of getting what his true value is on the market.

950k for one of the elite halfbacks of the game that is also an Origin and International player would be about market value.

Unironically just changed in the last few hours.

Where it says 2025 & 2026 here it had a blank space on the left and 2025 on the right.

Today must have been the day they transitioned it from 2024 -> 2025, and I've happened to look for Haas' contract length right in the middle of it 😢

He isn't a origin or international 7 though

Haven't seen this rumoured anywhere, but I have a feeling something is brewing with Payne Haas.

Available to negotiate with rivals, Broncos locking down his long-term replacement, Roosters freeing up more cap space, Broncos feeling a cap squeeze..

Wouldn't be shocked if Payne as the Roosters next season.
I don't think Madge would let Payne go anywhere before his contract expires.
And going by how Payne played in origin I think he's going to enjoy playing under Madge

I would tell Hunt the 6 is his and his to lose when Ezra gets back. Ezra can finish the year in cup or off the bench if Hunt is playing well.

Pretty sure I read Walsh saying he, Carigan, Haas and Ezra had made some kind of pact to stick together.
Sounds like he's sticking around.

If Hunt was a possible signing I'd have him covering 6 til Ezra returns which could be around origin time.
After origin have him at 13 move Pat to 8 which will reduce Paynes and Pats minutes after origin ready for a finals charge.

Well credit to the R&R team. I’ve been screaming out for signings and these two in two days are pretty big ones. Now if Mozer completes the set, I’ll be more than satisfied.

Staggs and Cobbo would be nice to have and as good as they can be, neither are consistent and we neee some good solid hard workers and can probably only afford to carry one in our side. I’d prefer if to be a motivated Cobbo but is there such a thing over a full season?

If we could flip one of them into Mulitalo, I think it’s be worth it. I’d love to get Savage too, either would be great.

Such a shame we didn’t prioritise Herbie.

I like the clubs stance on Cobbo. A supremely talented player who has been paid over the odds the last few years. He’s just not professional enough at this stage to command another big deal. We’re calling his bluff. No doubt we’ve made a decent offer but not the big $$ he’s been on now.

It's pretty embarrassing they didn't remove Opacic from the previously written article but even so, Sione would be a very good money ball pick up. He looks like he's about 40 not 28 though. He plays second row to a very good level and I imagine would be cheap.
Looks like Sione is retiring now

If he is daring to ask for an upgrade after his awful 2024 and the off field dramas, frankly he can take the Tigers bottom feeder money and go. The onus is on Selwyn to take a hit to his earnings to prove he actually gives a shit about being successful. If he wants to go the way of David Fifita or TPJ then byebye.
