No - I just wouldn't play Stagg in the backs, Boyd at centre and give Hoffman a go.

Do you not remember the "go" he gave Hoffman, in his last outing? [eusa_doh

Yeah, but a player of Hoffman's ability deserves a few chances.

Bennett loves the safe option, so let's just stop this wanking and play the same team on and on again as v the Dogs and Cows.

Sheesh. Let's never again talk of risk, experiment, something new.

Like culling/relocating Souths or other Sydney football teams and expanding the game? That's risky, experimental and something new![icon_wink

Likewise JW. I just think the players are more willing to take risks and try new things, throw a bit of caution to the wind. Honestly, of the top 5 league tries I've seen this year, 3 of them would've come from the Toyota Cup. Really good stuff to watch.

So why are our Broncs so boring, unpredictable and unwilling to take risks?

Because of Wayne Bennett right? If only you were coaching the Broncos, we'd be like the bestest team in the worlddd.

So you would get the broncos winning more games with you at coach instead of bennet........... Right.

So why does everyone just lay the boot into Brisbane?

It's not just the Broncos, it's the NRL as a whole. They're in a cut-throat, multi-million dollar comp where, if they have a four point lead, they'll play safety first footy to protect it. The Broncos, Storm, Roosters... EVERY team is the same in that regard.

The U20's don't have AS much pressure on their shoulders and don't cop the same scrutiny. They can throw a bit more caution to the wind without having to worry about fans flooding forums to have a whinge or newspaper columnists/commentators giving them a massive serve.

Yep! Hit it on the head there Mick.

Can you imagine the vitriole if the Broncos led 20-18 in a semi with 5 minutes to go, they're rucking the ball back from the kickoff, then Ennis notices the fullback is up in the line. Gives Manihera a wink and kicks from dummyhalf for him.

Becomes a one-on-one foot race, Manihera and, say, Inglis dive for the ball on the half way, Manihera overshoots it, Inglis gathers the ball up, gets to his feet and has room to move. Beats Hodges coming in cover, scores in the corner, Melbourne win 22-20.

At this level it is, quite simply, safety first football. This leads further to arguments about the merit of tries from kicks since so many are scored from them these days, since defences are usually so well drilled and opposition attack is studied so closely that there's often little alternative.
