Broncos V Eels, Post Game Discussion - ***SPOILER***

Best performance for the season (minus the 10-15 minutes before halftime) we really played good footy tonight. The forwards did the same as they have been doing week after week and the backs clicked because they got great service from there 1,6,7. Best game Hunt has ever probably had for us he was sensational.

It was indeed an awesome performance, but I still think our game against the Warriors was better icon_thumbs_u

I was having a minor stroke around the 50-60 minute mark when we let in those two tries, but IMO the best part of the night was seeing us muscle up again after that lapse and put on three more tries to put the game out of reach. Still a little concerning that we had that lapse, but that doesn't really matter.

Could've been a much closer game. Seriously, two of the three tries that Hayne bombed in the first half were nothing more than catch and land. We're really lucky - it could've easily been 16-12 at half-time.

Great game by the Broncos and I still think there is improvement to come. Our kicking game was still a bit poor locky and Wallace need to find grass more.. I thought Wapau was good enough but I'd like to know how many minutes he played. If Wapau is to be used as an impact player I don't think he should be picked ahead of Taylor.

I think Hindmarsh could be in some strife for that accidental kick to Locky's face. I know there wasn't much contact in it but that camera angle from behind shows he was leading with the boot to disrupt a possible put-down.

Absolutely! In fact release him immediately! He was appalling. Didn't tackle, no playmaking, running, no try-assists, zero side-stepping. Actually, was he on the field at all?

Returning to reality, I agree with much of what has been said so far.

THAT backline, when it works is awesome, but it was helped heaps by a good platform built by the forwards.

I am inclined to agree that Folau should be swapped with Michaels.

Glad Locky's back With a real BANG - except his kicking is still so so ordinary. I don't think he found open space once, & where are those great high bombs?

Good as the much improved performance was, I thought that the defensive formation still slacks off too much. Against top sides, we'll be seriously punished for any such lapses.

Loved Wapau's stint although I still think we lost a bit without Taylor.

Happy chappy! Look forward to our games against the top sides.

I also think more intenstiy in defence is needed especially against the better sides like the Titans and Dragons. The Broncos seem to cruising to wins without having to give 100% which is a good thing I think.

Nashy's a fat shit with no respect for people who are recovering from cancer. Ban him.

That was history too wasn't it?

Back on topic, yes it was a good performance, but I wouldn't be getting too carried away. Parramatta are worse than a Queensland Cup team at the moment. The Knights in Newcastle will be a massive test next week. We'll need to improve another level to beat them.

How many tries did Hayne attempt tonight? I was counting it and I think I got about 5-6???

And how many high shots did he attempt as well..

Kenny was immense and I actually thought it was Michaels' best game of the season. It wasn't brilliant by any means but a step in the right direction nonetheless.

It was great to see Lockyer gliding around the field like he usually does.

Also good to see Wapau get some decent time in the first half. I'd have him on the bench for the next few games ahead of Te'o or Setu. And if Henjak's seriously about improving Taylor's fitness, he should be spending at least 3 or 4 weeks in the Queensland Cup.

It'll be a much tougher next week against the Knights. Our defence up the middle will be tested big time - Gidley and de Gois are pretty dangerous.

Very good point. Matt Keating (that's the hooker's name right?) did catch our markers being lazy a few times but had no support. De Gois is a master at exploiting crap marker defence, and the Knights have plenty of players keen to go looking for the ball around the middle.

Broncs better tighten that area of their game up...it's an area we've traditionally been shit at.

How about Hodges' relentless penalty milking tactics finally paying off? Brilliant effort with the Burt push in the back. No try, penalty was the correct call but Hodges' dive made the decision a lot more clear cut lol

Yeah Hodges obviously did a bit of work with Ennis before he left or maybe he was emulating the master diver Hayne because it was a shocker! It deserved to be no try but he made it look like he got king hit in the spine.

a 32 point win and tits on the big screen. what a night!

Good performance tonight. Not outstanding, but there really isn't much to complain about.

Hunt and Locky were our best no doubt, but big mentions must go to Nick Kenny and Ashton Sims. Fantastic performance by the big units up front. Kenny is playing himself into a Queensland jersey for sure. Sims looks like he really benefitted from his time in the Q-Cup and seems very determined to get the job done. His intensity gives us that little bit extra that is needed. Clinton continues his good form as well.

Parra though, gee they are ordinary. A look back at the 2009 Australian Sporting Calendar will see Parra and the Queensland Reds as the biggest laugh for sure. I'll be very surprised to see Daniel Anderson last the year, whether he gets the boot or walks out on them.

I really like the way that Sims and also Clinton and Kenny are bending the line when they run the ball. It is getting back to what we had with Webcke and Petero. Very impressive efforts by the forwards which then allowed the backs to shine. Well done, and good to see Locky back and both he and wally kicking well.

Did you see the Karmichael Hunt "no try" earlier in the season v the Warriors where barely a finger was laid on Kemp and it was a no-try? Well done by Hodges to make sure people knew he was hit in the back, which he was. Don't you want players who do the best they can to win [icon_shru

My views on the game:
LOOOCKKKKYYYEEEERRRRRRRRR! You sir, are the God of Football. That is all. 8-)

oh, and gorrell can go to the qcup, thank you.

Mrslong about your little fine print opinion on Gorrell - I thought he was really good when he came on last night. I liked the way he was used. McCullouch to start to get the go forward really rolling, and then Gorrell on in the second half to just distribute good service and let Lockyer and Wallace do the talking.

Most of the game has been covered, forget Parra next week will tell us where we are.

McCollough looked lost at dummy half a few times particularly in the first 20, but still a huge improving talent and has to stay in the starting side.

For Parra, Mateo has soooo much time with ball in hand, I haven't seen a palyer with that much time since Gavin Allen in his lock days or maybe Cliff Lyons

We played better than last week, with Lockyer and Wallace coming back to form. Their kicks were a great improvement also. Our backline were able to perform their jobs due to Lockyer and Wallace doing their jobs. Hunt has put out his best performance in a while, maybe he has made a decision about his future?

Our forwards should be proud, particuarly Thaiday, Sims and Kenny. If Kenny keeps going the way he is, then there is no way that he can be ignored for origin.

However, there was a period of around 20 minutes in the second half where we nearly let the game get away from us. This is a concern, and a better team would have used this opportunity to beat us.

We have many areas that we need to improve which is a little scary considering we are playing well.

Hunt - starting fullback for Origin on the back of that performance... his best for the Broncos?

Locky of course played well - interesting comment made by Johns that he has to time his form now that he is older, as in, trying not to peak to early in the season
