Broncos v Manly Post Match Venting

He looks an absolute beauty does young Shaun Johnson.. It is amazing how good young halves can look after a prolonged run in their preferred position. Lets hope who ever we go with next year gets the same opportunities.

I've said it before previously, but I don't understand what our long term strategy is with Ben Hunt. Is he going to be an option at hooker? That doesn't make sense, because once McCullough matures he is going to be an outstanding player and should be able to play 80 minutes. Given I can't see Hunt becoming a hooking option at the Broncos unless McCullough has a career ending injury, what is the point of playing him on the bench? Is it to give him game time experience? If so, why didn't he play at 6 on Friday night? If Gillett is the option for 6 next year, then I have no problem with Griffin's decision, but if Hunt (or Norman) are going to compete for the 6 then IMO it is Griffin's first fail of the season. I called for Hunt to replace Wallace in '09 against Melbourne, but could understand people saying he wasn't experienced enough, but that cannot be the case for him not playing a 6 on Friday night, or at least coming on for Gillett at 6 at some stage during the game.

I can see Hunt in the 7 with Wallace in the 6. Should be interesting and I can't wait for the trials to see what Hook was cooking all summer.

At this stage I don't think Hunt or Norman are the answer at 6 or 7 next year and beyond ... Hunt to me just looks more like a number 9 than a 7 and Norman - well I always wonder about young guys who burst onto the scene like he did last year and then seem to plateau and not kick on ...

Someone posted elsewhere how the top halves have speed and agility (amongst other key attributes, like vision). I don't see Hunt with speed or agility. Wallace - ditto.

For mine, Hunt and Wallace will not be a competitive duo. Look at the top teams and their halves.

How slow is Hunt?? Seemed to make a few nice little darts out of dummy half using the little place he has..

We actually were competitive and our first set was perfect. Great kick, great chase but gave away a dumb (albeit borderline) penalty x 2.

Why oh why did we save our worst most ill-disciplined 10 minutes of football for the major semi final with everything on the line. Gillett I thought had a good performance, when we finally built enough pressure and settled down. Despite some of the comments here, Thaiday and Parker led from the front.

Again, lots of what ifs. What if we don't give away two piggy back penalties? What if Reed scores? What if Gillett scores? What if Hala scores - I genuinely thought we had Manly on the ropes, but a 16 point start always is going to be a difficult ask, Lockyer or not, major or semi or otherwise.

We would have smashed the Warriors this week with Locky coming back. Oh well.

If I had a 1000 bucks it would be on a Broncos premiership for 2012. They won't choke next year with that experience behind them, and learnt they didn't need Locky to be competitive on the big stage.

There was nothing wrong with those first 2 penalties. It was a big game. Hayne was bloody disgusting with the whistle.

Copley had an Ashton Sims performance and cost us 10 points. Knocking the ball from Reed, then dropping the ball out of position to allow HOpa to go over.

So there's 10 points from Copley, 10 points from the Refs.

Boys played as well as could be expected. Only criticism I had was whenever Corey would offload it would create something. Like the Storm - all we did was hit the ball up one out. It was so easy for the Manly defence. I hope we work on some second phase play over the offseason.

Credit to Daly though. He looks like he has all the time in the world with the ball. If he can have a good year next year and not fade out he's going to be a real talent. What a game under pressure.

this is a bit of a stretch. i bet you wouldnt find another game this year (or in history) where not one but TWO piggy back penalties were given for such marginal at best offenses. they were so minor i didn't even realise what the penalties were for.

we could of won, and we should of won. we weren't good enough in the back end of the game though, but we shouldnt of had to start from so far behind. we shouldn't of let in so many early tries on our own line but we shouldn't of had to defend our line so often, and wouldnt of had to with some fair refereeing.

im still mad about the game.

im still mad about the game.

Had KINDA gotten over this game till I went to work today and everyone and their dog whoring over the Warriors win, and how the loss to the Broncos seems so insignificant now .. sitting on the fence this Sunday for sure

Yep. The Warriors won 2 games in the final series, Broncos also won 2. Yet we are out, and they are in the Grand Final.

For and against:

Broncos:
For: 68
Against: 48

Warriors:
For: 52
Against: 72

Both 2 wins, 1 loss.

This is true, and again it's where I think the AFL system is fairer. Top 4 know if they lose in week 1 they get a second chance, and will play a team below them. Bottom 4 know if they lose in week 1 they're gone, and that they will keep getting harder games as they go.
All teams know from week 2 on there's no second chances.

The only difference with the AFL method I would have is venue allocations. I would keep the NRL method where if you win in week 1, you play your next game at home.

Let's just assume:

Week 1:
Melbourne lose to Tigers @ AAMI Park (on week 1 form, I think that would've been likely)
Manly lose to Brisbane @ SFS (also on week 1 form, I think that would've been likely)
Dragons def Knights @ SFS (Knights out)
Warriors def Cowboys @ North Harbour Stadium (Cowboys out - was probably a bit of a cripple fight based on week 1 form)

Week 2:
St George-Illawarra def Melbourne @ SFS (again, based on week 2 form, Dragons were superb)
Warriors def Manly @ Auckland (maybe wishful thinking)

Week 3:
Broncos def St George-Illawarra @ Lang Park
Warriors def Wests Tigers @ SFS

Week 4:
Broncos def Warriors @ ANZ Stadium

*sigh* If only.

Stupid article on nrl.com about how all the ref's calls were correct on Friday night. They only mentioned the 4 that went upstairs.

What about all the ridiculous ludicrous penalties given in the run of play? That's where the ref's were wrong, but there is no accountability on those. Only the video ref has to answer for calls.

Grrr it makes me Agro!

The refs sucked during the game. We lost.

Time to move on. :haha:

Go the Warriors.

People still talk about....some game that happened about 3 years ago too...

It's been 4 days.
It doesn't take 4 days to get over a regular season loss, let alone a preliminary final loss that Darren Lockyer's career hinged on decided by referees.

I hope kaz is fishing there....
