Broncos V Sea Eagles (SPOILERS)

Inexperience killed us today, as well as our continued inability to wrap up the ball carrier. It's been happening for yonks, but with the cool heads missing and playing against a quality team that weakness was exposed brilliantly today.

It's ridiculous how teams manage to offload so much against us and from situations that the ball carrier really shouldn't have any right to. All this leads to extra defense and a higher missed tackle tackle count which is why we are often classed as the most ineffective defensive team in the comp. Given that on points scored against we don't travel too badly, our line would be a an absolute nuclear bunker wall if we could fix that part of our game.

A great game from Hunt today. I'd like to think he'll be available for next week, we'll bloody need him.

Yea Hunt and Sammy played realy well today. Also i think Moon played good, i love that kid.

Ah.... why would we be "buggered" ?

We're no different to any other club, and this is the top grade.

Because like I said they can't do it week in week out, especially not the way we've been playing. The Roosters went through the same thing a few weeks ago.

I can't agree - to me it's essentially a question of attitude and leadership, which was clearly missing today.

At the top level of NRL, in Rnd 9, tiredness is, IMHO, a poor excuse.

If true, it reflects badly on elements of the coaching staff.

As for Moon, interesting to compare his stats to Matai. Or is this a reflection on our 5/8?

Moon: 74 mtrs gained and 0 hit-ups, Matai 184 mtrs and 10 hit-ups.

The issue for me is OFFLOADS! or for us the lack of... Yes we looked tired, we had some poor 5th tackle kicks and some fo the defence was second rate at best. But the offload thing has haunted us for years, we amble up, get knocked over by fewer defenders as they know we won't pass and therefore worn out; then when the other side runs up we have to commit way more troops to the tackle as we know they will look to pass the ball. All this today when so far this year it looked like we had gotten over that hump and were passing the ball... and that has nothing to do with Lockyer, hodges, micheals or parker, or carrol for that matter, our pack today was close to our normal pack and all of a sudden they forget to support or to look for it... very sad. It does worry me that between Hunt, Marsh, Ennis and Wallace we still looked like the boring boncos of years gone by... the new age broncos of 08' went missing. Did they pick up an old play book or something? and if this is what a week of Henjack does to us, we need to do some serious thinking.

Another problem is, minus Hodges, our outside back's ability in a contest for a high ball - or should I say inability. This is an area where Folau (touch wood) makes the coin spent worthwhile.

What hurt us
- Horrible reads in defence. We fell asleep in defence too often.
- Too many missed tackles
- Nobody took the lead

We really needed someone to step up with several players out and unfortunately nobody was able to do that. We were probably lucky to be ahead. Manly's first 20 mins was lacklusture.

I was very dissapointed with Stagg. He makes a lot of tackles, but he misses a lot as well. And it's not just this week, it's been like that for a while. I'm starting to rate him less and less.

Agreed, kicking consistently high to reese would be a good ploy.

Just got home from the game, what a long train ride with some Manly Wanker singing Eagle Rock most of the way.

The game was slow overall and we didn't come out for the second half. Robinson as I've said before just isn't up to NRL, its that simple. He sh*ts himself every time they put the ball up, he has no clue. He is tentative in the air and would be better off either punching it dead or waiting for the player to land and smashing him.

Also we get no contribution from our wingers from dummy half, we really missed Hodges today bringing the ball off our line. If (when) we end up with Locky out again I think it's time to try Hunt at 5/8 Boyd to fullback because Stagg just isn't the solution.

Eastwood hasn't come on, unless he improves heaps over the next 2 months its time to cut the nuffy.

Yea moving Hunt to 5/8 is a possible solution but we need him at fullback as he is our only player who can take a bomb. Possible move Moon to 5/8 and Stagg to centre.

I tend to agree, let him go play for the Warriors. Lets hope Henjak feels the same way.

He makes a lot of tackles because he puts himself in a position to do so. With this being the case he is bound to be the player in our team with the highest missed tackle count, simply because he has more attempts than anyone else...usually by 15 or 20.

He is also an 80min player who shifts all over the field in attack and defence, meaning he is under quite a bit of fatigue, which is also a major contributor to missed tackles.

I dont think missed tackles for Staggy are that big a deal, as long as they dont lead to tries. I do however agree that he has to try and cut down. Then again so does everyone else in the team!

How do you know Hunt wouldn't be a good 5/8th??? He played 2 or 3 games at halfback last season I can't recall him ever playing 5/8th. I wouldn't move him to 5/8th but I 'd love to know your reason behind saying he wouldn't cut it at 5/8th??? He will be our 5/8th when Lockyer retires.

Disappointing loss today. We were the better team in the first half but we struggled in the second half. I hated that we had a lot of missed tackles too... [icon_thumbs_do

Also they count miss tackles as tackles which he can't make, like diving for the person who took the ball above robinson. I mean he never falls of tackles or anything its just he dives and tries to make tackles which arnt his.

I don't want to see Hunt move out of fullback unless someone realy stands up and can play well at fullback(Kemp/Boyd possibly) and unless Hunt is a great 5/8. At the moment he is on of the best fullbacks but also he does alot of play making while playing it so dont move him.

so what should brisbane be doing for the 5/8th spot?

players i think "could" do it

Hunt (K)
Hunt
Boyd (shoot me all you want)
Moon
Marsh

What we need is for Stagg to play like a forward and just let Wallace do everything else. Wallace just needed to take more control today IMO. I'd still have Stagg at 5/8, we've won games this year with Stagg there so I don't see the problem. He just needs to adjust his game slightly to suit Wallace.

I havent watched the game in full yet as I was out for Mothers Day lunch, but I agree with this no matter what. Seeing as Locky is out for a considerable period now, Wally needs to take control of pretty much everything and allow Hunt to chime in wherever he wants. Stagg should try to play like a bird or anasta, just run it and pass when the opportunity is there.
