Broncos v Storm *live spoilers*

Gillet, Kenny, Winterstien, Macca, Kemp

Broncos on Twitter saying that Hoffman's ribs are only bruised and should be right for next week icon_thumbs_u

Great effort by the Broncos today, lead by Locky and Sammy who were outstanding backing up from Friday night's good performances. Yeh that Darren Lockyer really is over the hill  [icon_lol1. Yet again, Darren Lockyer proves the critics wrong. Hopefully the media and the AP's keep bagging him and bagging him because he just responds every time icon_thumbs_u

Good to hear Hoffman might be right for next week he is really starting to get his shit together!!

I'm a very proud fan this evening.

Will be interesting to see the side named if all those guys are back. Kemp can go back to Wynnum (I think that's his QCup team), The rest I would imagine come back in. Hunt probably back to the Comets, but would be happy if we decided to rest Wallace and Macca for another week to ensure we're not rushing them back too soon.

1. Hoffman
2. Winterstein
3. Glenn
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Tronc
9. McCullough
10. Anderson
11. Te'o
12. Thaiday
13. Parker
-----------------------
14. Norman
15. Gillett
16. Kenny
17. Dodds

After the way Yow Yeh has been playing I'd be sending him back to Norths to find his footy brain!!!

You can't possibly tell me Kemp has been better than Yow Yeh. I'm not saying Kemp's been worse, but he definately hasn't been better!!

So looking at the ladder, A Win next week and a bye the week after could have us in the 8.....
Ha! How good would that be? A 4-6 record and in the 8. After today, is it now OK to hope that Melbourne win every game for the rest of the year and deny everyone else two points? [icon_shru

I really can't believe just how much Sammy T has improved this season.

He's in devastating form!

Bit tough on Hunt to be dropped after he played in his first win for the Broncos.

Sounds good. Come on Melbourne...

owww shit now i feel cheap.

Enjoy... from the Sydney Morning Herald.

AND so reality bites. The emotional surge that helped carry the Storm to successive victories in the immediate aftermath of the salary cap scandal was conspicuously absent yesterday, as the grim realisation of their ''pointless'' existence hit home. Nothing to gain but still something to lose.

''We are very proud of the standards we set,'' fullback Billy Slater said. ''How do we uphold our standards each week when we've got nothing on the line? It's a tough one, but we certainly play for our jumper. Whether we're playing for points, whether we're playing park footy - we're playing for the passion that we've got for the Melbourne Storm jersey, the players that have played in it before us, and the blokes next year.''

Somehow that passion did not translate into points yesterday - the ones you earn for tries, rather than wins.

The Broncos were good but the Storm, while at times displaying the carefree attitude that has accompanied victories over the Warriors and North Queensland, were not.

It prompted coach Craig Bellamy to concede the enormity of the punishments handed down to the club ''might have caught up with us''.

''There was always going to be a letdown at some stage,'' Bellamy said. ''Today wasn't the day we wanted to have a letdown. New stadium, the fans turned up. We didn't need it today. It was going to happen at some stage, after the last two weeks, but we didn't need it today.

''We know it ain't going to be easy and we've got certain standards in our club, footy-wise, and we didn't go near them. When you go out on that field, you've got that purple jumper on, you're playing for your teammates . . . they're the things we've got to play for.''

Precisely how the Storm will react to yesterday's loss is anyone's guess. While they were always going to be primed for big plays and performances in the emotional aftermath of the NRL's decision, the broader question was how they would deal with the bleak, long-term prospect of playing an entire season with precious little incentive.

What is clear for now is that their immediate reaction following their first defeat since the salary cap controversy erupted was one of hurt.

''The feeling was like any loss,'' Slater said. ''We certainly take losses very hard. How we bounce back from this … we bounce back in a good way or we keep the trend going. Hopefully we can get our heads right.''

The players were as disappointed for the Melbourne fans, who had rallied to fill more than 20,000 seats in the new AAMI Park stadium, as they were for themselves. ''I can handle losing a game of football, but to not give our fans what they thoroughly deserved, for what they've given us the last two weeks … today was meant to be a payback to them,'' halfback Cooper Cronk said.

When it was put to him that it might be the beginning of the end of the Storm's season, Cronk said: ''People can say what they want. We can't guarantee how we're feeling in 10 weeks' time or 12 weeks' time, but one thing we can guarantee, and I can guarantee and Craig can guarantee, is this purple jersey means a hell of a lot to me and my teammates.''

^^^ And that's what wrong with the storm, it's always someone else's fault - "it it weren't for the penalties handed down...", "it if weren't for the ref in the 06 gf..." geez they're a bunch of little shits - how about showing respect for your opposition that was miles better then you? What a bunch of petulant cheats

This was a great performance. What impressed me the most was the defence. Sure, Storm had their opportunities, and got within a whisker of scoring a couple of times (Quinn left corner, Slater on the grubber, Quinn on a kick ahead again) but the difference between this week and all but about 3 games this year is the Broncos were applying pressure throughout the sets.

That's the key IMO, if you're applying pressure on 99% of tackles, then those 50-50 chances the attack tries that little bit harder to take and that can sometimes lead to error. If you're not applying pressure, then those situations the attacking players feel more relaxed and can take advantage more easily.

We've been saying for weeks the Broncos' problem isn't attack, isn't that they're young, it's that there's no plan or effort in defence. That all changed yesterday.

With the Storm not able to just rampantly roll forward and through, it meant the Broncos pack was able to muscle up and make some go forward momentum, and look what happened? Lockyer, Norman, Hunt, Folau, Thaiday...they were all able to find space out wide and create opportunities.

Norman impressed me heaps at halfback. Hunt impressed me heaps at hooker. Both performances are crucial to keep the rather lacklustre Wallace and McCullough honest (when I say lacklustre, I mean this season). Competition for spots usually inspires urgency.

Hunt showed good service out of dummyhalf and is a very useful third kicking option.

The big 3: Lockyer, Thaiday and Folau: were absolutely sensational. Thaiday is, IMO, the form back rower in the competition, if not the form forward. And if I can be at all critical of Folau it's that his winger seems like a stranger to him. They just do not play well together - is that Yow Yeh's fault or Folau's? I'd say both.

For me the game was won in the first 20 minutes. Storm had all the momentum and possession in that time and yet only came away up 4-0. First opportunity the Broncos got, they scored (thanks to Billy's dirty kick at the ball tactic that should see him suspended for about 16 weeks). And scored. And Scored. And SCORED. Amazing how confidence snowballs into domination.

However, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Tits will be a totally different challenge. They were shit yesterday, but they always put in their best for the Broncos and we'll have to work damn hard to challenge their defence. But a performance like yesterday should be enough to get back to back wins for the first time.

Both pretty even but at this point I think Yow Yeh has more mistakes in his game. Whoever is selected will do a good job regardless. icon_thumbs_u

This thread is awesome. I caught the replay yesterday on Fox and it just reinforced how awesome Corey Norman was on Sunday and that Thiaday is in the form of his career.
