Broncos Vs Bulldogs Match Thread.

I dont think it would take a genius to work out the bolk of Melbourne's salary cap would be tied up with Smith, Cronk, Slater and Inglis. I would go as far as saying that all four of them would be in the top two money earners at any club that went to.

I think one thing is for sure, Slater, Inglis, Cronk and Smith wont all be playing for the Strom next year

Another week, another poor Broncos performance.

Don't really have anything to add to the thread, it's been covered already.

Our defence is absolutely terrible, and our attack is void of creativity and urgency. We have a long way to go.

I'll say it again, Hodges is probably the most important player in the team. Lockyer could used to lift the team up, but he is getting old, and just doesn't have the zip to him anymore.
The side is lacking passion. Hodges brings this in bucket loads.
ATM, the only player that is running with any real intent off Lockyer is Thaiday. Is one dimensional. He misses Hodges outside of him.
What happened to Lockyer's inside ball to Hoffman from last week's game?

because he has been getting old for the past 3 years, and getting less and less effective on the field. 2008 he was woeful for 3/4 of the year. 2009 he was poor for most of the year. 2010 hes been dreadful. hes not getting any better, and hes not getting any younger.

has he even made a tackle this year? deadset he must be missing about 30 each match.

9. Andrew McCullough
10. Mitchell Dodds

12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker

14. Lagi Setu
15. Ashton Sims
16. Josh McGuire
17. Scott Anderson

Hmmmmmmm, pretty good. I still think though that we need SOME kind of backup on the bench for the outside backs and halves. We have an absolute gem in Alex Glenn to fill this position. Best case scenario is that our backs will get through the game fine and Glenn came go back into his 2009 role coming onto the back row from the bench where he went fantastic. While Gillett is out I would bring Copley back in. He is a solid defender and a smart footballer IMO.

And I'm sorry, despite our poor showing from our forwards tonight I still can't justify Sims and McGuire being selected, unless they have big games for Norths this weekend. Why is everyone creaming over McGuire anyway? His form for the Broncos has been shite!!!! So with that, assuming that Winterstein won't play next week (and hoping that Macca is OK), and of course with our current injuries to Gillett, Hodges, Wallace, Kenny and Kemp (bloody hell look at all those friggen injuries), I would go with:

1. Hoffman
2. Norman (not a natural winger I know but there's nobody else available really. Wouldn't pick Rivett [icon_lol1. )
3. Copley
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh
6. Lockyer
7. Hunt
8. Tronc
9. McCullough
10. Anderson
11. Te'o
12. Thaiday
13. Parker
----------------------
14. Glenn
15. Lui
16. Setu
17. Dodds

And the team to run on as per program!!!!!!!!!!

I'll put Coply on the wing with Glenn in the centres.
Dodds to drop off the bench as well. Doesn't do enough for my liking.

1. Hoffman
2. Copley
3. Glenn
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh
6. Lockyer
7. Hunt
8. Tronc
9. McCullough
10. Anderson
11. Te'o
12. Thaiday
13. Parker
----------------------
14. Sims (give him go!)
15. Lui
16. Setu
17. Norman

Lol, People have been saying that Lockyer is getting to old for the past three years. He couldnt do anything wrong last week. What a difference a week and a decent half back make. The problem is this, For the last seven rounds we have not had the same backline once. Same can be said for the fowards. If we had our full team with no injuries i think it would be a different story.

Pretty much everything has been covered in the thread and I reckon everyone has valid points - great reads.

The only thing Donny mate - as was proven in a previous thread, Lockyer is a fav player of all time by a LOT of people on this forum --> and he deserves so much more. BUT... honestly... he is heading in that dangerous area of "a superstar who has lost it" territory. Personally I think if he wasn't the champion that he is he would be copping so much more flak --> never doubt a champ but at the moment he is just really inconsistent and a frustrated player.

I've said this before but I think he has to take a different approach to his game IMO. Webcke did it and he was the best prop of his decade by light years --> but he openly admitted that he had to CHANGE his style of play towards the latter of his career to produce maximum results for himself and the team.

- and as someone mentioned already don't blame the halves when the forwards are getting owned but IMO there is a bit more to it than that... also everyone knew it would be a good game to get a good measure of how we're going because the Shark's defense is honestly an absolute joke... and the dogs aren't even going that great. I just think we should learn to crawl before running a marathon ATM.

Just my thoughts.

Very disappointing. What does it say about our forwards when only 2 of them played well (Thaiday and Tronc) and 1 of them just jumped off a 20 hour flight and a week of no training??

I know it's easy to get upset after a loss but I am just about ready to say the Henjak should get the boot. I know he got us to the preliminary finals last year and credit to him for that but it looks like he has learnt absolutely nothing from his first year as head coach. I hate how he keeps picking outside backs on the bench, and as the Gymp said to me earlier tonight, there is little point picking an outside back on the bench at the best and worst of times, but it is absolutely pointless when we have players like Te'o and Glenn who can cover any injuries to our centres and wingers.

Also, I absolutely hate how he chops and changes the starting line-up just before kickoff. All week we're wondering which 13 players will run on the field, and you would think this is the same at training if Michaels, Beale AND Norman are all named on the bench. FFS Ivan, just pick your best friggen 17 players and stick to it!!!

Then of course there's the fact that he hasn't employed a specialist defensive coach. That's just basic.

If Craig Bellamy comes out of the Storm saga with no blemish against his name, Bruno can get him to write his own cheque as far as I'm concerned.

Pretty much agree with everything said here. People think Henjak did a good job last year because of the prelim final appearance. But that run of games culminating in the 56-0 loss to Canberra was enough for me to see his ability. A coach these days is just as much a motivator as a coach. And he seems far from inspiring whenever I hear him talk.

Although Bellamy looks tarnished right now, as Jeba says - if he comes through clean and its a big "if" ... you just have to pay the bloke whatever it takes to get him. Henjak is never ever going to attract players for unders, and thats what it takes for a club to stay at the top. Bellamy will and does, just like Bennett did and does.

Oink !

He made :

1 inefective tackle
4 missed tackles
1 one on one tackle
24 tackles

just for the record.

Terrible first half and we were lucky to only be down by 6. I went to bed after the refs decided the result after halftime.

Pretty sad but there's always next week

I think the team has to persist with Hunt for the whole time Wallace is out, just to get some continuity going. I think he can step up.

I'm not dismissive of criticism at all. I just stick to my beliefs - like a number of us here about T'eo.

I thought our defence wasn't that bad tonight. Sure it isn't great, but it's our attack that worries me most - too much lateral, no depth, and no creative plays behind the ruck by any of our playmakers.

As for Hoffman and Hunt and the Qld Cup, I think that's not a fair comparison. What you are allowed to do there is hardly what you are allowed to do in the top grade.

Are you kidding me? Our defense is the most thing to worry about. We've had the most mistackles and leaked the most points than any other club. That's the most important thing at the moment.

Yeah have to agree there tkday, I can't blow up about the obstruction and forward pass tries because they originally came from the fact that we couldn't tackle.

Even Locky isn't safe from the knives on the Broncos Forum.

If anyone watches the game they will understand that Locky isn't playing badly, he is doing everything he can to get this side going but he can't do it all. He is getting no good go forward, no quick play the balls, nothing from his half and has hardly got an option beside Folau to pass to which is no use without the go forward.

Geez watching Locky out there reminds me of coaching kids, he must be so frustrated ATM.

Fair enough.

At the same time, we won't win if we don't score points, and as far as I can see our attack has completely lost it big time.

Flat and shallow, no depth, no creative plays behind the rucks.

Underutilizing Folau. No kick chase. No bombs to either wing. No consistent grubbers behind the line with players in support.

No 2nd phase plays anymore. In fact, no set plays.

All we do is catch-pass and hope someone makes a break. Sure. We can improve the defence out of sight. But we'll still keep on losing albeit by less. To me that's just as bad.

Last year, Henjak looked good because he relied on the players we had. The team made him look good. Adversity always shows what you're made of.

how frustrating to watch a team you love and support get bulldozed by a team that is beatable...too many soft penalties and dropballs, D line staggered and its a hope and pray type of attack where just throwing it to the next guy and hope he does something spectacular happens..

Lockyer as a 5/8 doesnt look comfortable throwing it out wide and i dont blame him, theres nothing being created in our attack shape to get the opposition in 2 minds, yep he cant do everything

i say stop playing it safe and just go hell for leather, push that offload, support play and big D even if it means running outta the line, worked for the roosters of old...if it pulls off, good, if not, tough, at least us the fans know theyre trying something different instead of some of the dribble we've seen these past 6-7weeks

Ivan get a clue bring in Sims

We have no shape. You have to have depth to have shape. A flat line is shapeless.

This is true. He has been stifled into running the ball more because there are no genuine ball-runners at the moment (Gillet maybe) and to create some doubt in the opposition he is taking on the line a lot more than he has for a number of seasons.
