Broncos Vs. Panthers - Telecast & Post-Match Discussion

It was going to be very hard to keep our winning streak going and I'm not devastated by this loss at all. We have a very young squad and perhaps it was hard for them to get up for a 5 day turn-around, it is something they'll learn. Sims might have let in that final try, but I thought he ran very hard and seemed to be the only forward getting a head of steam up when hitting the line, thought he was one of our best. Will be interesting to see how we go in our next game.

Does anyone have an update on Glenn? He was in a lot of pain last night.

He sure is the goods. Any prop plays crap after a long lay off, he'll need 2-3 games to get back to full strength and he will be great again.

9 times out of 10 he gets dominated, he needs to change direction or something he gets smashed heaps. Granted he gets back up and goes again but that doens't help you get a roll on.

We were flat as a tac but perhaps given the short turnaround we shouldn't all be that surprised. Penrith had the bye last week and therefore two weeks to prepare for this game and it showed. They were fresh as dasies and completely dominated our pack.

Despite some of the comments on here I actually thought Sims was our best forward. Midway through the second half he was the only one hitting it up with any vigour. The remainder were slow off the mark and couldn't make any metres. How often did Penrith start their first set of six from around the 30m line? That's too much ground to give up.

That was arguably Wallace's worst game in a Broncos jersey. He was all over the place but he shouldn't be singled out for it.

And Kenny definitely needs a week or two in the Qld Cup to find his form.

A dissappointing and frustrating loss but definitely not the end of the world. It is a costly defeat though given the number of teams on the same number of points as us. We'll definitely be out of the 8 by week's end.

some telling stats from the game.

Kenny - 6 runs for 35m
Dodds - 2 runs for 12m

thats just not good enough for NRL props.

even Gillett only managed 6 runs for 32m

I think Kenny needs to put a Petero style turn when he gets to the defensive line into his game. And I think we'd be btter with McGuire on the bench instead of Dodds, he offers a lot more.

Does anyone think Wallace might have been a bit in two minds? He's probably trained the majority of the last two weeks with Norman as 5/8, he also saw Lockyer deliver a MoTM performance in the Origin game, so probably thought he should do most of the playmaking? Wallace definitely kicked better than Lockyer last night, and showed some flashes, but for the most part was a bit all over the place.

I'm finding it hard to fathom all the negative comments re: Wallace ??

I thought he had a great game. Good passing, great kicking, excellent defending.

He runs the side around superbly and is starting to get a good bond happening with Hoffman ... all the inside balls are just fantastic.

Considering the real reason we lost last night (absolutely NO go forward) I thought our halves had very good games.

Wallace had a horrible game, apart from the try. Heaps of passes behind players, i really cant see him being the player we build our team around when locky leaves. He is definitely not going to be our halves leader, we will need to find someone else imo,

Agree entirely.

He's a solid option to have in the halves, but he's far too inconsistent and lacks those 'game-breaker' type plays.

Hopefully he gets better with age.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. Playing under the shadow of a guy called Darren Lockyer can't be easy...
I thought he was very good against the Rabbits with Norman alongside him!

That's not the best game to judge his peformance though. Our forwards were waaay on top and even Sandow could have dominated if he played for us.

That's because he's not the sort of halfback that you would "build" your team around. You don't build your team around an organisational halfback, you build your team around your KEY playmaker. Norman seems to have the skills to be our key playmaker in attack, I wouldn't be surprised to see Norman at 6 being our key man with Wallace at 7 just doing his thing and directing the team around the paddock, putting kicks up for our wingers and the occasional try assist here and there, along with a solid kicking game.

Good grief! That's twice in a row I completely agree with you!

Thats my concern. Once locky leaves, we wont have a key playmaker, because norman will have barely got any times in the halves. All the pressure will be on him, and until he has the talent and the confident, a lot will rest on wallace, who i honestly dont believe is capable of carrying a team

I guess it'll be the same as when Alfie retired. We have been blessed with two incredible players who dominated for so long, but this forms a major problem when they retire.

From my perspective: The refs were on Brisbanes back from the get go. It was very noticeable on the audio. Penrith were off-side as a tactic and were allowed to get away with an enormous amount.

This was extremely noticeable via sports ears. The refs were heard warning Luke Lewis REPEATEDLY that his team was making no effort to get back onside etc, but they didn't penalise.

Then after half time they were remarking "seems they listened to our chat"...too little too late, wankers.

I really really hate the mentality of referees that don't want to blow penalties but rather talk to the captain and ask him to correct the area of concern. Penalise them. Then tell the captain to sort it out or more penalties will keep coming.

Very weak from Badger in particular.
