Broncos vs Storm Game Thread

Yeah, I do recall both those incidents. But I also recall last year his sensational one handed pick ups, his line busting runs that setup tries etc...all things we certainly won't expect from Kenny.

But hopefully Sam Thaiday, Greg Eastwood and Ashton Sims can provide that explosiveness in the pack.

Taylor can do wonderful things but WB wants experienced guys, so he has gone with the average Kenny.

For this game I think it is the right move, it will be torrid.

And I remember the rumblings of the mistakes made with the promising Meyers and Carlaw and about how Bennett didn't react soon enough, you can't have it both ways, Bennett is looking after his best interests(if you think he doesn't have faith in Taylor your really not giving Bennett the faith he deserves that he has PROVEN in many years of service to the game as coach) and doesn't want to see the mistakes made that led to confidence drops in both of those players. Shane Webcke and Petero Civoniceva didn't develop overnight into the players they were and nor were they assured spots week in and week out until they could prove they could handle it, why should it be any different for Taylor?

I think this way we keep him well out of reach of origin, at least for this year. He will make it one day if he gets his head in the right place. I think Kenny deserves his chances. Its up to him to take it to the next level. You always need hard workers in a team.

i must only be 1 of few who rates kenny.

Against the cowboys in 41 minutes he almost ran for 100 metres and didnt need to tackle his ass off due to the score.

He's not explosive hes just a worker. plain and simple.

If taylor was firing though i'd have no problem agreeing that he gets put b4 Kenny.

Anyone watch NRL on Fox tonight?
Take notice of the new tackle that the Storm have come up with.Their wrestling coach have taught them and it is really dangerous.

They used it against Cronulla and the Roosters and the NRL are aware of it now.Gees!I must say I don't want those types of thing in our game.
Hope they don't injure any of our boys while they are at it.

Going to be slippery and maybe wet and windy down there so hope we handle the conditions well.

Yep agree with you Rocky on the Kenny >Taylor issue.Havn't seen anything exceptional out of Kenny whereas Taylor has the goods and a good future ahead.

There will be a dislocated shoulder in the near future if the Storm's new tactic isn't rubbed out of the game.

I didn't take much notice of it over the weekend.

How does it go?

3 defenders in the tackle.

2 defenders stop and runner and pull him down and wrestle him while he is down while they let the non-ball-carrying arm free, and the 3rd defender does all sorts of things to the arm - crushes it, bends in all sorts of directions, puts in the knee sometimes. Should've seen the one they did on a Sharks prop, they kept the arm straight and pulled it straight backwards and it looked like it was going to pop straight out.

That is disgraceful! If Bellamy ends up here I hope he forgets all that crap with the tackles. Grapples, Crushers...whatever [icon_thumbs_do

So what, is it supposed to slow down the play the ball or something?

Probably that but also to get the third player to force the ball out, hence probably sometimes you see poor ball control from the forwards who play the Storms simply because it gets to the point where its too painful to hold onto the ball anymore.

I would've thought the 2 defenders wrestling the ball carrier on the ground would do that well enough. And they can do that without doing anything dirty.

But this extra tactic is purely there to hurt.

Also one guy is across the chest and the player with the ball has one leg also bent back.
Tallis was saying it is to slow the ball but it is a disgraceful act and the three on the panel also said that the grapple was mainly the Storm and even though all clubs have wrestling coaches none put it into practise the way the Storm do.
Now they have come up with this doozy.
Fitzy from Chooks really took offence and went right off.
Scarey stuff.

I seriously think it is time the NRL considered limiting 2 men per tackle at one time. Half the problmes you have now wouldn't exist if you brought that rule in.

Teams like the storm will soon enough work out that these specialist tackles are simply ****house. Give away too many penalties, aren't that effective and often fire the opposition enough.

For tough, legal, brutal and effective defence, please look at Exhibit A, Ashton Sims, Tonie Carroll, Greg Eastwood, Ben Hannant and Sam Thaiday icon_thumbs_u

I thinkthe Storm did something similar last year with put Nathan Cayless on the shelf, or is this a different tackle?

Also I rate Kenny too, he may not be as exciting as Taylor, but he does a solid enough job IMO. Every team team needs a worker.

Just heard on Fox sports news that Hodges and Marsh are out, Marsh with a rib injury and Hodges with a hamstring strain...

Quote from fox sports
BRISBANE have lost hooker PJ Marsh and could lose test centre Justin Hodges for tomorrow night's NRL clash with Melbourne at Olympic Park.

Marsh was ruled out at training this morning while a sore knee prevented Hodges from taking part in the final session.

A decision will also be made in Melbourne tomorrow on whether skipper Darren Lockyer starts the game, comes off the bench or even plays.

Broncos assistant coach Ivan Henjak says Lockyer’s knee will be assessed after the team walk tomorrow before a decision is made on what role he plays.

AAP

Not good news about PJ. He has been absolutely great for us in the first 3 games.

Stiff confident regardless of the team we field.

FFS!

Another week, another couple of key players bite the dust

Marsh's absence will really hurt us more than Hodges. Suppose Boyd to centres with Kemp on the wing, and will be interesting to see if Perry comes into the side off the bench with Ennis starting at hooker. Moon will no doubt be taken as 18th man.

Must say I am not confident about this game
