Broncos withdraw offer for Hunt

Well done Cullen.
Hit list now includes:
Civoniceva
Bennett
Hunt

BTW when it comes down to it, the decision is Lockyer or Hunt.

Personally would love both to say and honestly no fullback in the game runs that second man play off Lockyer better than Hunt.

Remember Hunt signed for a pittance 3 years ago - got promised the big bucks on the assumption Lockyer would be well and truly on the road by now.

Feeling a bit disillusioned and TBH think ex-footballers acting as managers pretending to be solicitors with all their "my client" talk and hard ball negotiation really is BS. Anyway we got over Civo, glad they didn't do it to Locky.

Cullen can't be blamed for this one... Hunt has been offered a good contract that has been on the table fdor around 6 weeks. Hunt (or his manager are either just being greedy or trying to play silly buggers to get a better deal. (if it is the second they obviously didn't learn anything from the Civoniceva situation.)

Well this doesnt surprise me since he dogged the Kiwi's to play for Australia.

As they say, Once a dog Always a dog....

Firstly, I have never, until just then, heard the saying "once a dog always a dog".

Secondly, admins can this go to "The Pool Room" as one of the most stupid things ever posted in Rugby League Talk threads?

Maaan i'm a tad worried at the moment

Whenever Hunt has been coming up to a resign period he's always been heard saying 'he wants to be a one club man' etc etc... i don't think i've heard that in a while.
Although if i can remember, he didn't sign straight away last time either.

Ah well what happens happens i spose. Would love to keep him (you gotta be puffin muffins if you don't!). Yes the incident at the end of last year didn't make him or the club look good at all, but he wasn't alone in that and others must take equal responsibility. On the field he's a vital part of our team.
Man i remember the days Hunt played for less then peanuts and was just happy playin footy...

See what happens, the Broncos will go on either way.... if we've more then lived without the likes of Alfie and Webcke etc and if we can live without Bennett, pretty sure we'll be able to live without Hunt.

Yep. Hope Hunt does what I want all players to do and tell his manager to shove his opinion where the sun don't shine, and that he wants to play for the Broncos and tell them that. I'm sure if K said he would definitely re-sign, but it's just a matter of negotiating a bit on the terms, I think the Broncos would be more accommodating.

It sounds to me like he just flat out said "no, I want to see what else is out there".

Civoniceva's manager was mainly at fault & it seems Hunt & his manager are doing the same thing as Civoniceva.

And from what I have heard, several players were p!ssed off with Bennett when he lied about the Roosters coaching job & when he sacked Kevin Waters etc.

Love the way some of you fans turn on your own, without even knowing the facts. You base your narrow minded opinions on absolutely no fact and complete media speculation.
What will happen is the club will back down and pay him what he is worth or he will leave and another club will. This I know with absolutely no doubt and complete faith.

So in other words:

- we are all fools for speculating at what is written in black and white in an official Broncos press release
- you are not a fool for speculating about what will happen based on your lack of doubt and your well of faith

Pffft, whatever. Still got heat stress or something?

Please, take your narrow minded opinions elsewhere.

Like it or not, the scenarios bigjim has said are the most likely.

Worth pondering though Hammo - If at first you are a dog, is it possible to change to something else??? A cat maybe?

Maybe you could examine this more in your recap of round 2???

I have posted before about my concerns about us losing good players who I thought we should keep (and I accept the reality of the salary cap and what that means for player retention). I also agree that Hunt is a fantastic player and somebody the Broncos could look to build a team around in the future and he is a player I would love them to keep. But I have to applaud the stance taken by the club.

He has been made what seems to be a very fair offer given the club's salary cap and other commitments to players. That offer has been on the table for a while. He has had enough time to test the waters. If he wants to stay, the ball is now fairly in his court, he can't say he wasn't warned if there is no money down the track. All he has to do is remember what happend to Petero, a far more senior player, who was destined to be a one club player but was forced out because of money.

Would you really want to be running around for the Reds, or playing for some other club in Sydney that may or may not make the finals just for a little bit of extra money??

Decision seems clear cut to me.

On the subject of Petro... Perhaps a swansong year at the Broncs in 2010 now we seam to have a couple dollars to spend???

I would like his money go toward adding a bit to our pack... and I guess retaining some developing talent like Taylor.

Personally, I think he got offered a reasonable contract for a 19 year old, who while he had proved his was a good player, hadn't yet proved he was a great one (has he done this yet, I don't know???).

He's still only young. It should be his next contract where he's looking for the big bucks, not this one. Assuming he signs a 3 year deal now, he'll be 25/26 when he signs his next one, and most probably in the prime of his footy career.

I guess it comes down to whether he values money above all else. If he stays in the NRL and at the broncos for all his career like Lockyer has done thus far, he will no doubt in my mind become the games leading player, and have played the most games for the club, possibly comign with it as being rememered as the greatest bronco ever.

I think Cullen put it best by saying this is the biggest contract the broncos have ever offered a 22 year old. Nearly 400K a season doesn't sound like much of a sacrafice to stay at such a great club to me.

Cullen has said this won't be the case

Good.

Why do most Broncos fans seem to think it's awesome to bring back old players. Start fresh, if we lose a couple, big deal.

And if you're going to re-sign someone from another club, lets make it someone who's under the age of 30.

If we are to buy a prop, I would like to think it would be somone like Justin Poore, someone that will give us quite a few years of service.

Yeah, De Vere, Thorn, Langer all spring to mind.

I can't comment on Kemp, he's only played one game for the Warriors.
