Broncos withdraw offer for Hunt

I thought the Tonie Caroll project was good, as was the Allan Langer re-signing. It has known to work in the past.

I propose we buy Greg Inglis to replace Karmichael, he'd be the only one I'd be happy with. Do you think he'll come here for match payments? Hmmm...to dream to dream.

Hunt wants another $200k or so on his contract. So he'll umm and ahh, few media stories about yawnion, and he'll meet the club halfway by next week. Ho-hum.

Don't get me wrong. I love some of the oldies they got back, but the Broncos have always had a massive young player base.

Give them a run, it may take some time, but give them a shot. At least then the club can really look into the future, not just 1 or 2 years ahead at a time.

Hunt was very valubale to the club prior to the sexual allegations last yr. Clearly he has damaged his reputation and more importantly the brand of the Broncos. It wil take time to prove that he deserves top dollar at the club.

From reports he was offered a very good offer and has had 6 weeks to sign.

I am happy with the clubs stance as we need to move on with signing Locky and a few others.

$400K a year can go towards finding a prop and topping up the contracts of our young backs.

oh noes! the golden boy is greedy and stuck up... what a surprise.

the surprise to me is the lack of ppl backing him here, good on ya!!!

No player is bigger than the club. End of story. If Hunt wants to play here, he better work that out.

I can't see Hunt not resigning with us. I certainly hope so anyway. He is still improving and I'd love to see him a future captain.

I dont believe that hunt is going anywhere...and i dont want him to go!
i think he loves his profile in brisbane to much to go anywhere else!

I'd be happy enough if Hunt walked away in the knowledge that a fair offer was made, and he was too big for his own boots.

Unlike some in this thread, I'd put Hodges straight to fullback next year if Hunt left. Imagine how damaging his running game could be with less tackling to do.

And then we bank Hunt's 330k ... upgrade one or two players and then could buy a good quality player or take a risk on somebody out of luck. I can't help but wonder what a bargain the Titans may have got with William Zillman if he can stay on the park. Maybe we could get lucky with a similar deal. Or bring a disillusioned Queenslander home from down south for a nice price.

Oink !

I can see Bennett getting him to St George

Hrmm potentially. But I dunno if they've got the cash at the moment.

I know it keeps getting said but geez the salary cap needs to be looked at, and concessions granted (which, as they appear below seem a little convienient to a Broncos supporter...)
- Unlimited payments for 1 maybe 2 marquee players.
- Concessions to the salary cap for players who are raised through the relevant club's juniors program.
- Loyalty bonuses for long service.

I've said this before but no-one can execute that second man play with Lockyer better than Hunt. They've built that combination over 4 seasons and not Billy Slater, Denan Kemp and any of the others that they've tried to slot into that role can make the decision as consistently right as Hunt does as the second receiver ( last Friday's 3 try assists are testiment to that). Sure, they could train Beale or Hoffman but that combination will take time and Locky is goneskis.

I've always thought this would be an excellent idea. Clubs should be rewarded for developing players. At the moment, it seems like clubs bring through juniors, keep them for 3 years in the top grade, and then lose them to other teams because they have developed them in to such good players, they cna no longer afford to keep them.

This does perhaps give an unfair advantage to teams who have a large junior base though. Surely someone liek the broncos, north qld etc would have more juniors to chose from than inner city sydney clubs

As you said though it has taken them 4 years to develop that combination. Hunt goes, Lockyer goes and the 2 news will develop other combinations that are just as effective. Yes I'd prefer the Broncos to keep Hunt, but players come and go, time moves on - ho hum, I am so over players who think they are bigger than the club or the game.

It would be a shame if he left but as others have said players should not be able to dictate what goes on in contract negotiations as much as they do. A lot of that has to do with the managers and them wanting to get their slice of the pie but its beyond ridiculous now and its not just happening at the Broncos, it happened with Benji, Civo and there are probably other which I cant remember at the moment.

I think there should be salary cap concessions for every year you stay at the one club. Even if it's 3% a year. As soon as you switch clubs you no longer get any concessions no matter how long you play there. Once you have played NYC or above for a club, have a contract with said club, it kicks in.

First contract, first year: 100% on the cap
Second year: 97%
Third year: 94%
etc.

This would be Hunt's 6th year. Assuming the rumoured $334K per year he was offered, if that were just the amount on the cap he could actually earn:
2010: $394K
2011: $404K
2012: $415K

Total contract value: $1.2 million

If he were to go to, say, the Dragons for $400K per year he'd get the same money in the bank, but the Dragons tie up an extra $200K of their salary cap over 3 years.

I think anything that demotivates players from leaving the club that discovered them is a good thing.

Thats a good plan as it would also encourage clubs to spend money to develop players rather than just buy them from other clubs. (not mentioning any names......Bulldogs [icon_razz1 )

Yes Coxy is right for too long the Broncos have developed great players that have come through there Junior ranks and not been rewarded for it. Hunt is a brillant player who IMO the Broncos need in there side for life after Lockyer..
