Bye Bye Johnathan

Yep. Needs to drink more milk.

BTW, I reckon this scenario could play out:

- Tim Smith goes well at the Broncos/Easts
- Greg Bird fails at five-eighth (he's not a five-eighth)
- Lockyer retires from Origin
- Cronk plays halfback for QLD, Thurston plays five-eighth
- Thurston signs on to rugby union from 2011

So:
- Titans recruit Tim Smith to play halfback
- Prince shifts to five-eighth
- Queensland pick 7. Cronk 6. Prince for Origin

I reckon that if Prince never broke his leg he would still be incumbent test halfback with Thurston taking up Cronks spot on the tour. Prince has had a bad run of injuries his whole career and unfortunatley for him Cronk was the form 7 in the back half of the year especially finals.

I'd be happy with any of the following halves combinations for QLD after Lockyer goes;
6. Thurston 7. Cronk
6. Thurston 7. Prince
6. Prince 7. Cronk
Dunno how Cronk would go at 5/8 but that could be another option if he manages. What I'd REALLY like to see before he buggers off to Union is Thurston have a prolonged crack at 5/8. That probably won't happen unless he leaves the Cowboys and stays in league however.

Only chance of that happening is if the Broncos give Tim Smith preferential treatment and Ben Hunt joins the Cowboys and plays halfback.

If he stayed in league and left the Cowboys it's a possibility too, depends on what team he goes to however and whether the Coach is smart enough to know his natural position.

If this were to happen NQLD will have something to say for sure - I mean they are going to have some big pull cash wise if JT leaves right?
Unless they decide to distribute that money on 2-3 gun players...

As it is now though, there's specialist halfbacks coming through that are far better than him in that position, so it's probably time to step aside...this is a good way to do it and save face.

Who are these specialist halfbacks coming through who are far better than Thurston??

Clearly Coxy means Tim Smith. Granted, he's coming a second time, but this time he'll be even better. He's like the Jesus of Queensland.

Ron Jeremy? So Tim Smith is the hairy porn star of Queensland?

That makes no sense.

Perhaps he means Tim Smith will screw anyone who stands in his way? If so, this still bodes well for QLD icon_thumbs_u

Thurstons manager asking for a million a year lol Matt Gitaue only gets like 700,000 after endorsements etc

Thing is the Wallabies actually have some talent in the halves right now, it is about the only position that looks genuinely positive for them. They have Barnes and Giteau at fly and Genia and Burgess at scrum, I really don't see why you would take a million dollar gamble on a guy with a bad shoulder from a sport which thus far has provided the Wallabies with mediocre performers rather than World Beaters like they expected from the likes of Tiqiri, Rogers, Salor etc.

You dont use your shoulders to tackle in Union ;)

On his day Prince is one of the best players in the game but Cronk absolutely outplayed him this year and deserves first bite of the cherry at the moment.

1) Agreed about Prince - he's consistency is very good but not enough explosive performances in the last couple of seasons... and this could be unfair but definitely not when it was needed imo

2) You're right about Cronk but he's ALWAYS going to look good with Inglis and Slater on his team... unfair tag fair enough but still...

Cronk is half the reason that Slater and Inglis and Co. play so well - he knows when, how, and how often to get them the ball. his kicking and passing game are just pinpoint accurate.

Yes, he's very well drilled. However, if all their pet plays aren't working Cronk isn't going to produce something out of the ordinary to break a game open. Prince is capable of that.
