chequebook is open. potential playmakers

Apart from his own form issues, I worry about how he'd fit with our coaching structure, which is very rigid in what is expected from our playmakers. He seems more of a "play what's in front of him" style player.

To me, that's what we need. Someone who looks at the line and reacts accordingly.

Thurston does that.

One advantage in Wallace is that I think he'd be the perfect partner for Johnson. Wallace is a steady and calm organiser, even if he has no other talents. He'd steady the side if things aren't going Johnson's way. Though to be honest I haven't seen any Warriors games this year, so I have no idea what role Leuluai is playing. Maybe it's the same as Wallace.

Wallace doesn't organise anything. He gets tackled with the ball too often and is too slow.

So by that logic, we might as well let Hunt loose as halfback now. Let him play his natural game .... try and encourage him to be creative/unpredictable.

I'm sure he has it in him somewhere.

I agree the Wallace / Johnson partnership would excel. If it happens that we can't resign Hunt past this year to the goal of being one of our fulltime halves, then we may just have to persist with Prince/Wallace next year (i know, a long year!!) and throw a good chunk at Johnson for 2015.

In regards to the freedom given to a half, i think that's what they tried to do with Norman and Wallace. Give Norman the freedom and Wallace keeping things steady and tackling his heart out but unfortunatley, Norman didn't / doesn't have that bit of extra spark to create out of nothing whereas Johnson does. Johnson would be putting Glenn and Gillete and Hodges thru holes all day.

Wallace and Johnson?

......and Johnson would be getting the ball at a snails pace from Wallace and would be left with no room to do anything.

Like Prince is going through now

and Norman went through last year.

Wallace would be 5/8th, so SJ should get the ball first (in a perfect world)

Imo widdop and hunt would have abilities to deliver us a premiership. Both young and willing with good ability. Might take a couple of seasons but once there they could be a dominant half combo for years to come.

I'd be very keen to get Widdop. It would be a test for him to not play with the big 3 and the storm structures though. Sam Williams would also be a good get. I think he is what we need. Michael Morgan would also be worth a look.

It won't surely happen but I would love it if Adam Reynolds came here. Has the best short kicking game i've seen, organises a team well and is a superboot when it comes to goal kicking. We need a halfback that can organise a team and get a team on the front foot.

How does one define organisation in Rugby League?

Seems like a compliment that's used to pad a halfbacks credentials these days. Knew it was a problem when Wallace started receiving praise in that deparment.

The problem with someone like Reynolds is he offers similar things to Wallace. We need someone more in the mold of Sutton. But yes once Wallace is off contract we should replace him with someone like Reynolds. By organisation we mean set plays people in position and having the right timing people not standing flat. Both the on field general and coach are responsible. This is why the storm are so dominant they have two generals in crank and smith ensuring those things run smoothly. Also the talking/seeing up, the decision making of how they should implement the game plan etc.

After rereading the article claiming the chequebook is having its cobwebs dusted off I get the impression the wording was considered carefully and its preparing us for the signing of Dugan. A five eight that can play fullback.

They other issue in this excellent post is: it is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE> WHY ISN'T IT HAPPENING?

apparently we will still be opening he chequebook if we get Dugan ... from the morning couriermail:

The Broncos are considered near-certainties to secure Dugan, but they would remain in the market for a new playmaker after Corey Norman's decision to leave for Canberra.
"We wouldn't be looking at Josh Dugan to replace Corey Norman,'' coach Anthony Griffin said.

on the subject of potential playmakers for us the same article says that we could potentially get Sam Tomkins for next season, it would meaning paying wigan an expensive transfer fee .... now i don't know if that needs to be declared under the cap or not

Well, as long as we are seriously in the market for a good half, I guess I would be fine with Dugan. Because he is far from a ball playing fullback.
