PLAYER Corey Oates

Is he just to big now? Have heard multiple times his in the best shape of his life but being jacked doesn’t translate to fast.
I don't think it's his size it's his natural ability for pace just isn't there and hasn't been.

The injuries and timeout is not getting him back to the highs of 2022 which he made alot of sense as basically a Tall To'o and he was making all the tough catches.

His future lies as a bench backrower until retirement I think.

Who are you replacing Oates with next game.....?

This sack of potatoes.

I love the bloke, he's a great guy and some of my favourite Broncos memories are of him, but he's just not up to standard anymore.

The biggest reason people wanted him in the side at the start of the season is because of the impact he used to have with his runs coming out of our end and with Herbie gone we needed that more than ever, but he doesn't have that same impact anymore. His pet defensive play in '22 was jamming in on the opposition 5/8 or centre and smashing them before they could get a pass away to the winger and he saved several tries doing that but he's even too slow to do that now.

There was a period of play against the Dolphins (or was it the Eels?) where we had them shot on the left edge and Ezra was looking for the floating cut out ball to Oates but he was 10 metres behind the play because he couldn't keep up. We had made a break prior to that and he was still catching up.

He's rocks and diamonds but lately it's been rocks. He's done.

Thought he was very good yesterday. Safe hands, decent metres, solid in the tackle. Worthy of an honourable mention.
He was great. Everyone seems to ignore the fact hes playing with a knee injury. The club should be offering him a minimum wage contract next year, just to have him as a backup.

Makes absolutely no difference at all. If you're slow, you're slow.

The only decent quality he has left is he can make a few metres from runs but even that is declining as his impact isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be.

We can get away with playing him against the shit teams, but against the good teams he's a liability.

He's done. Injuries and his reluctance to look after himself those few years he was spitting the dummy have caught up to him.

His only chance left is to try and transition to the backrow where he might be a decent option off the bench for 15-20 minutes.

That's an absolute crock of shit. He's still making meters and tough ones most of the time. And those years when he acknowledged he wasn looking after himself were more mental than physical. He has also not once ever spit the dummy.

The only thing that can really be levelled at him as a real criticism is his lack of speed now.

I'd have him in over Mariner. Yeah he got ran down by the Gold Coast, but the other outside backs have been struggling hard to take hitups and we are going nowhere. At least Oates can make some metres.

Sign him for next year on $200k and tell everyone in the squad that he deserves the extra (above minimum wage) for always putting the club first and doing his job without complaining. I don't care if we go through 2025 without needing him, he's earned it from his time here.

He's still jamming in and shutting down plays aswell

I don't think he's much slower than he was in 22 and he's been carrying a knee injury this season.
