Dale Copley - Appreciation Thread

We don't have to "release" him, he isn't signed on for next year.

My take on Copley is this.

as good as Reed has been for the last 2 weeks, you can't discount the last 3 years of mostly shit. '

and even though Copley hasn't been at his best this year, you can't discount his form of last year ... and may i remind people that his form of last year happened with 2 pretty big anchors trying to drag him down, namely, Anthony Griffin and Hoggman/Barba at 5/8.

also in his stint this year not only was he continually moved to cover both center/wing and left/right, but he was outside a Milford who was still trying to find his feet in the 5/8 position.

I honestly feel that Copley offers us far more upside than Reed does at left center. we need to give him some consistency in the position though.

Yeah there's no doubt Dale has wayyyy more upside than Reed, I'm just not sure that Dale has the passing and decision making quite yet to be an elite Centre, if he can work on that for the rest of this season in ISC he's still got a reasonable chance of getting a Centre spot next year with Hodges potential retiring and Reed potentially going back to being Reed.

Bennett won't accept mediocre like Hook did so the onus is on Copes to seize his chance when he gets one. He hasn't been great this season partly due to injury so he is under a bit of pressure now.

Copley has to work on his defence. He's definitely not a winger. He has been out played so far by Reed this year especially in defence. Unless Copley has a blinder during origin we won't be seeing him for the rest of the year. Also Kahu Should take justins centre spot next year if he retires. Sorry don't see a spot for Copley.

Dale has to earn his spot this year. Last year is dead in the past. Form is about the now. Copes has not been on the field enough and has not produced the goods this year so on this in my opinion Reed has more up side, less injuries, better D, offload and passing game. Reeds form is great at the moment. Last few years not so and would have asked for his heaf a few times. But like i said form is about the now and kahu also more upside for me if not for the injuries

Up until Copley got dropped, with Reed keeping his spot:

Both players were average this year with the exception of one game each. (Roosters game for Copley and Eels game for Reed)

Before this season:

Reed had been poor for the majority of the last 2-3 seasons.

Copley was our leading try scorer last season and one of our best players. He did that without a quality 5/8 and a coach called Anthony Griffin. I would love to see him play outside Milford, now that Milf has found his feet in the 6 jersey. Reed has played really well the last 2.5 weeks, but IMO, Copley could go so much better. Especially if we give him some consistency in the one position instead of moving him all over the backline.

You cannot drop Reed.
Why drop a form player, for a player who is out off form.

There is absolutely no need to make changes on that side. Especially when Bennett is already changing the winger on a per game basis between Maranta and Vidot.

Just because someone *might* be better, doesn't mean they get a spot in the team. No different to this hack Taylor people are going on about.

It is a bit rough calling an U20's Australian Halfback a hack? Most clubs would love to have him on their roster.

I guess we will find out in due course. Unfortunately, U20's halfback doesn't mean crap when it comes to NRL.

I understand your reservations about Taylor but find your comment about him being a hack disrespectful of one of our young players. Why don't you trying your argument without the degrading comments and you may get a better reaction from people

I agree about not dropping Reed, but is Copley "out off (sic) form" or is he just a victim of lack of confidence - both personally, and by the selectors, who keep shuffling his position.

I thought his limited opportunities last year were very promising. Copley has footwork and speed Reed can only dream about.

At the same time, Reed is clearly playing very well, in large part due to his combination with Milford, and defending well enough to stay where he is. There is no way he should be dropped on current form. Our left side is super effective so far.

As one of Copley's greatest fans, I would dearly like too see him get at least half a dozen games on the left, combining with Milford but that ain't gonna happen for the foreseeable future.

As for Taylor, there is no way I can see him getting NRL games while Hunt is there. Hunt is just too good and is playing great, his kicking game has improved out of sight on last week's performance, and he is combining extra well with Milford although not with Gillett which is a shame.

I see Taylor leaving the Broncos in '17. Why would a class player hang around in ISC when with Hunt and Milford performing so well, he is virtually no chance of making it to 1st grade.

On the other foot, there is the chance that Milford goes to .... no, I won't go there...

I think this is a possibility in the future. If we have the success i think we will over the next few years our cap could be really stretched

Zerotackle.com has Taylor listed as signed till the end of 2016 on $100k atm
