Darren Lockyer Retirement plans?

This is a pretty sad day for NRL & Broncos fans, but it was to be expected.
He can't go on forever.

I'm kind of concerned about what's going to happen in our halves department after Locky goes, do we just slot in B. Hunt there with P. Wallace?
Is that REALLY good enough? At this point in time - I don't think it is. But, I'd gladly enjoy being proved wrong.

What are everybody's thoughts on this?

I can sense some really dark times for the Broncos starting next year. Our halves are going to struggle majorly.

Agreed. Our backline is fine, some great young talent as well as decent experience in Hodges (I hope to christ he stays injury free now) and we have a fantastic blend of youth and experience in the forwards. Our halves however.... :|
Wallace has rarely given us more than two good performances back to back and hasn't shown anything for far too long to suggest he can be the future playmaker of this team. His form has been consistently average or worse for an unacceptable amount of time. Don't tell me about how good his defence his either. Yes it's important but he's a halfback, not a backrower ffs. As for Hunt and Norman, I have no idea where the hype comes from. Both have left me unimpressed after plenty of opportunites to shine.

The prospect of Bennett and Boyd coming back with Boyd to slot into 5/8 gives me some hope, but I don't even know how good the chances are of that happening. The pessimist in me says it won't happen, and the Broncos will become just another club, without a defining factor which makes them stand out from the rest.

Round 26 Fri, Sep 2 - Mon, Sep 5 T.B.A Broncos Sea Eagles Suncorp Stadium

Make sure you are there.

I'm so there. I'd assume regardless of where we play in the finals, this will be his celebration round as it's the last home game in the regular season?

If so I'm there and will be buying tickets soon!! No way I would miss this for anything.

I would imagine so mate. They did it that way for Webcke back in 2006.

In disbelief, can't believe this day has come..such a sad sad day.

I am not as excited about the prospect of Boyd being our 5/8th as others. He isn't a natural playmaker, in fact he is probably less of a playmaker than Inglis was when he switched to 5/8th. And at least Inglis had some good back up in Cam Smith and Cooper Cronk there.

Unless we have a dominant creative halfback and McCullough starts to really come around as a hooker, I think Boyd would do more harm than good at 5/8th.

Sad day but glad he's not playing on too long

Perfect timing IMO, the kids look to have stepped up no they can hopefully deliver number 7 and give Lockyer the perfect retirement present. Lets do it for the kid from Roma who became the Greatest Bronco of all time. icon_thumbs_u

Long in my memory will Lockyer and his awesome feats for the Broncos, Maroons and Australia be.

Never thought I'd see the day. Surely he'll become an 'immortal'.

I'm glad I've been able to watch pretty much all of Lockyer's career. Growing up he was my favourite player, I just loved watching him. Used to kick the footy around in the backyard or down the park, commentating to myself, pretending I was Lockyer.

Thanks for all the good times, Locky. I hope to see you back in the game in another form.

We will sell out that last round for sure, it will be a Sunday afternoon game now surely....

Wish I got tickets for game 3 now.

Darren Lockyer to permanently be in the BHQ banner.

I think it would be cool if the Banner was filled with Captains of the club.

If Wayne doesn't come back, this is the last of the Broncos legacy gone.

If he isn't here. The Broncos are nothing more than another NRL club.

Lockyer chatting with Salty on 4BC at 6pm tonight.

Also on MMM at 6pm chatting with Sterlo and Joey.

One of them must be prerecorded obviously.
