Darren Lockyer Retirement plans?

Lockyer chatting with Salty on 4BC at 6pm tonight.

Also on MMM at 6pm chatting with Sterlo and Joey.

One of them must be prerecorded obviously.

Either that, or one will be at 6:10 or something.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll try and listen in online. icon_thumbs_u

I'm glad he's calling it quits now. I'd hate for him to play a year too long.
Now, to buy tickets to the final home game of the year.

I usually only attend matches once every mabye 2 yrs, I prefer to watch them on my widescreen. But this one has extra special significance. I'll definitely try my best to make it to the game.

I actually can't believe it. I'm just shocked  I'm hoping I wake up and it's all just a really bad nightmare but somehow I know its real, thats the real sad part!!!

Locky is a legend of this legendary club and of the game of rugby league itself. The main reason I started following Broncos all those years ago.

:-(

Kinda weird but Locky's one of those players that I expect to play forever. I only found out late this arvo about it. He's done so much for Broncos, Qld and Aus and deserves a statue of some sort at Suncorp.

It's gonna be a very sad send-off for him at the end of the season!

Is it too much to hope that he gets a sendoff like Webke, and that his final game ends on the podium at ANZ stadium holding the premiership trophy aloft while 100,000 fans applaud him?

please let this happen *prays to allah*

I actually feel really sad about this. Don't get me wrong, I'm really grateful for all he has done for the Broncos, QLD and Aus... hell, Rugby League in general, but it's just going to be so strange knowing he won't be playing for us again. I just hope he has the send off season he deserves.

Sad Sad day for me. Cant remember last time i felt so down. What a player and a legend.
Really cant imagine what it is going to be like without Lockyer.

I've only ever known a Broncos team with Lockyer in it. It'll be exceptionally weird without him, the end of an era and it'll definitely be sad when he does finish.

Sad to see our greatest ever player finish up at the club. Let's hope he gets to go out on his own terms and is not injured this season.

If Wayne doesn't come back, this is the last of the Broncos legacy gone.

If he isn't here. The Broncos are nothing more than another NRL club.

I don't know if you were just taking the piss or not, but I tend to agree to an extent.

Lockyer is the last link to the powerhouse broncos of the 90s, and I just don't think the Broncos will be such a force without him. With Lockyer in the side, you get the feeling the Broncos could beat any other team.

It's a pity he won't be around for another year as I think this team has a lot of young talent that could really go places in the next year or two, and the experience and talent of Lockyer would certainly help their progression and ability.

I could see the broncos winning the comp in 2012 if Lockyer was around, but I think they'll struggle with a post Lockyer hangover for a couple of years now. I guess it was always going to happen at some stage though, and it's better he retires too early rather than too late.

Sorry mate but the Broncos will never be just like every other NRL club.

This!

Our club always finds that great player who steps up above the rest.

Hoffman could be it. Maybe even Beale with some regular first grade.

If we are to find the next great player I wish we would hurry because we haven't found him yet.

Truth be told though this day was coming, we were blessed with such dominating players for our sides in the past that you can't expect that to last forever, players like Lewis, Langer and Lockyer that really define a great side just don't grow off trees. Despite Lockyer's departure we still have the foundation of a solid side and now that he has finalised his future early in the season that gives us options for what to do for a replacement for Lockyer in 2012 and beyond, be that in Hunt or Norman or onto the market.
