Agree MB. He played for the Junior Kangaroos or Schoolboys as a five-eighth. He has the skill to play the position. Yes, he's been poor with the opportunities he's had at first grade level, but so the hell has Shane Perry!

He has the skills to play the position? Could have fooled me.

He is apparently a no.6, he never gets a run there for the side and gets to play centre or lock in limited time off the bench. It would be like giving Hunt 20 minutes each match in the no.9 and expecting to see a world beater. Throw Moon the 6 for a fortnight and see what he has with the time and position he deserves.[/quote:2q7rvuey]

And a very good halfback on his inside.

I'm totally with you. I can't understand why we'd fight to re-sign him and then not use him.

Lockyer awaits word on knee
Matt Marshall and Steve Ricketts

A FAX from Hong Kong, due at Broncos HQ this morning, will determine whether the setback Darren Lockyer has suffered on his troublesome right knee is minor or catastrophic.

The champion pivot, plagued by ongoing knee soreness and swelling since his return from a nine-month rehab in round 1, received MRI scans yesterday with the results immediately sent to orthopaedic specialist Peter Myers – in Hong Kong.

Courier Mail on-line are saying it's fine and he may be back for the Tits. Thank God for that.

[quote="The Rock":1n0kchqz]Have Stagg at 5/8 until Lockyer returns. Wallace works best with Stagg.

Why? What about when Lockyer retires? Why keep putting in temp fixes when we could put new blood there... like Moon.

Because Moon isn't a 5/8 and never will be.

Isn't Moon a centre?

Am I wrong in believing that Hunt was earmarked to be 5/8 when Lockyer retires?[/quote:1n0kchqz]

Yeah of course he is. He might have played a bit of 5/8 in reserves but Moon has no value at 5/8.[/quote:1n0kchqz]

He's played there for the Broncos didn't he? and did fine. What are you basing your argument on, apart from what you think?

Mind thing then?Maybe he should get an injury somewhere else like Johns was saying the other day and take his mind off the knee.

Great news if it's true though.

Any player who never gets a chance to improve is going to suck. Look at Boyd, constantly improving.

And the times he played, you can't just say he was out of touch, the whole bloody team was. This is the problem with a lot of fans, and what seems to be a major problem with Bennett and some of the management at the Broncos.

Lack of experiance means you don't get a game, unless you go into your first game and kick ass, or you simply don't have a viable option to be replaced with.

Moon can and will be a great 5/8th, if someone just gives him a fair go. You learn by playing games, how anyone can try and deny that is beyond me.

He won't improve for NRL sitting in the Q-Cup. It's completely different.

Yeah, true, but Boyd has and is playing in positions which match his skills.

I agree with Da Rock - Moon can be a fine centre but has no real ball playing skills for 5/8.

Give Hunt a go I say (in vain)...

Broncos statement re: Lockyer.

Scans Clear Lockyer of Further Damage
THE WOW Brisbane Broncos have received positive news today with scans on Darren Lockyer’s knee showing no further signs of damage.
Instead, the pain Lockyer has been experiencing in his reconstructed knee has been attributed to simple wear and tear in the joint.
Scans showed up wear and tear behind his patella that is not uncommon after surgery.
Importantly, the original surgery is fully intact and there is no need for the Broncos captain to go under the knife again.
The plan for his rehabilitation has not changed. Lockyer will not play this Sunday against Newcastle and then be re-assessed next week.
Lockyer said it was a relief to know that simple rest is all he needs to do to get the knee right to play.
“My mind set is that I want to be able to play pain free,†said Lockyer.
“We think the best way is to give it a rest this week and see how it is coming along late next week.
“I am relieved by the good news, but I knew all along that structurally it was feeling strong.
“I just want to get rid of that discomfort I have been feeling, so I can be confident I can go into a game and get through it unhindeed.â€Â

The problem I have is the Broncos keep moving our players around as fix gap solutions. We need to give these guys a chance, get them down to Broncos training so they learn.

in 2010 when Lockyer leaves, who have we got? Stagg? I think not.

This is the PERFECT oppotunity to throw a junior into the role. Sure, end of the season, we need as much experiance as possible, but right now, we are travelling alright, and we should give someone a chance to improve, or prove what they are worth.

If Moon doesn't work, someone else, if not them, another junior etc.

Maybe even move Hunt there, get him used to the role, and move Boyd back to Fullback, or rotate him with Hodges there in Attack, and Boyd in Defence.

Moving Stagg there is helping the club in no way whatsoever.

That's great news about Locky. I'd still give him 2-3 weeks off though.

Can someone please tell me whether I am right or wrong about Hunt being earmarked for 5/8 once Locky retires?

You are right as far as I'm aware.

But if we have no good 5/8 prospects out there who are ready for first grade football (and I don't believe there are), then what's the point in trying players out and giving some kid a go?

Let's try and win a premiership first hey? Stagg is the best option IMO.

IF we had a player out there who looked like being a good 5/8 and was ready for First Grade footy then by all means, throw him in there and give him a go - But you can't simply just pickt he next guy in line from the QLD cup and just "give him a go". There's so much more to it than that.

So give Hunt a go and put Boyd at the back?

He was earmarked for 5/8 or halfback, and that may still happen. However, I think they'll also size him up for the 13 jumper.

Rather see Eastwood in 13. His defence is IMO really improving.

There is also so much more than winning a premiership. What about long term goals? Long term players?

You don't win a race when your race car is put together with duct tape. It's the same, we need to test players when we have oppotunities like this.

Sure, we could go nuts with the temp fixes this year, and yes, we could win. But what about the future. I know for one, I'm not happy with winning, and then waiting for years and years to win again.
