That's not a good read“He wants to play comfortable footy at a good club. The Broncos have been good to him but they … haven’t won for six games in a row.
Literally a quote from David Fifita's mum in an article just posted by Brent Read, lol.

Jesus. What does comfortable footy even mean?“He wants to play comfortable footy at a good club. The Broncos have been good to him but they … haven’t won for six games in a row.

This is one of the best players in the competition who happens to be young as well ... every club would take him. People being hurt because he wants to be paid his market value and won't get with the worst team in the comp at a discount is weird - even though it seems he will.
1.1 million is not market value.

This is why the nrl needs to cap contracts to players who are under a certain age, it's a joke. $700k for a backrower who hasn't played any rep footy is ridiculous , but some desperate club throws him stupid money and that's market value.Whatever someone is willing to pay him is market value.

Payne signed his deal in 2018 though, before he made his debut. I dare say he wouldn't sign for 500k now given he's already an established first grader that's played for NSW.I don't see why these players don't realise that for every extra dollar they demand from the club, it's one dollar less they can spend on their team-mates. You won't play for a "good club" if that club is paying overs to players who just want to play "comfortable footy".
He needs to look Payne Haas in the eyes, and say "thanks for taking a haircut on your deal so that I can now demand more". See how much respect that earns him from his team-mates.
Can someone smarter than me explain if this actually represents market value, or something else? I feel like if the price of a player is based on one outlier club making imprudent financial decisions it probably shouldn't be called market value. This is why the nrl needs to cap contracts to players who are under a certain age, it's a joke. $700k for a backrower who hasn't played any rep footy is ridiculous , but some desperate club throws him stupid money and that's market value.
“You want to own things in life. You want to own them while you can.
At the end of the day he has to look after family. Family was there before footy came along.”
