OFFICIAL David Fifita signs with the Titans

It's now 3 years / $3.5m according to Badel. The offer has gone up $300K in the space of an hour!

Way to hedge your bets, Chris Garry.

If we lose Fifita blow the club up - everyone goes and start from scratch. He is basically the one player that we have groomed that we need to keep as he is easily the best of the bunch. Despite this the club has managed to stuff it up giving contracts to everyone else.

Not being vindictive but if he signs for titans I wouldn't pick him for the rest of the year. He's good but we aren't playing finals. May as well play someone who's committed to the club and get some more game time.

Proposed contract details according to Badel:

Titans:

2021 - $1.25m
2022 - $1.1m
2023 - $1.1m

($3.45m total)

Broncos:

2021 - $700K
2022 - $800K
2023 - $900K

($2.4m total)

Doesn’t it just make you sick.

It’s a good point, but then you piss him off for life. There’s every chance he wants to come back to the club in his prime. Keep in mind how young he is.

An edge backrower can only have so much impact, he’s not going to perform 100% better than another backrower on $500-600k. If we go even close to matching it it’s because those running the club are afraid of the inevitable headlines.

I think those values given to the broncos offer are around about what he’s worth. If he doesn’t want that, I wouldn’t offer him anything higher. When was the last 2nd Rower who changed a clubs fortunes?

You could argue Cordner, Wade Graham, Tallis, maybe a handful of others in the history of the sport. Second row and wingers might be the easiest spot on the field to fill.

So now he’s happy to sign for 3yrs..?
If we lose him, the club will get absolutely ripped to shreds.
Really hope he doesn’t leave, but it’s sounding likely he will go..

Selling himself too cheaply! Tell the Tits, I'll take 5 years@ 1.4m p.a. 7million all up. Done deal.

Nah.. if he wants to be here he can stay now. 800k a year is nothing to sneeze at for a20year old. Just seems like ego is at play now.

On the bright side if Fifita leaves we'll have a $700K hole in the cap space for next season, probably a whole lot more if we can rid ourselves of Bird & Ofahengaue.

Maybe Grant isn't completely out of the equation.

Now THAT is someone I'd have no issue signing for 5 years / $5m.

Matt Lodge:

“A few of us have been loyal staying here for less money but the deal Dave has got has been incredible from the Titans. If he takes it, we will still be friends, but it’s the best deal in the NRL in the country so it’s hard to knock that back. Dave has to make his own decision. It’s all on him, I won’t try and advise him either way. Obviously I would love him to stay, but only Dave can make the decision he is comfortable with. He is a big boy and he will make his own call."

“It can be seen as a bad thing to be in a tough position where you can’t decide, but that’s what you work for in this game, to have good healthy deals on the table and whatever Dave decides, I will be happy for him.”

Except we will probably re-sign Milford for 5yrs/$5m.
It’s the broncos we’re talking about here..

This is why he's been wise not to jump at any of these offers. They keep raising their bids. Why would he be in a hurry?

We’re always the club who seems to be on the end of shit house organisations (long term shit house orgs. We are what I’d describe as temporarily shit house) throwing massive money at players. It’d be fine if we could use that mil to sign someone like grant, but he’ll stay at the storm for 700-800k.

I’m over it. The nrl is losing me by the day.
