Dear NRL HQ & the media...

So....can someone tell me why Sitili's arm to the head is only worth a fine while others are worth 3 weeks? ELI5

(And aside from the jersey colours, I mean.)

Says it all, and it will get worse with this nonsense they brought in last week.

And that doesn't even cover 20+ point losses which is even worse. It feels like there's been a helluva lot of thrashings in games this year. Getting slammed 30+ 5 years ago wasn't that often, this year it seems like a few games a week.

Yeah would love to see the stats on like 20+ being say 14 points ahead is pretty close these days.

I suspect if you go back further in time, you will see the trend continue for the most part.
I suspect every time the rules are changed to speed up the game there will be a corresponding divulgance in winning margins. Teams adjust and the margins come back some but always the overall numbers will be greater than before the rule changes.
Obviously with a faster game, more points will be score and hence a greater margin.
A more interesting statistic would be to see average change of teams leading during games.
That to me would indicate a far more successful management of games and the competition.
I suspect the NRL has known of this deficiency for a long time, hence the push to "even" penalty counts a few years ago.but this came unstuck under fan scrutiny.
The beauty of the "6 again" is you influence game momentum without the same scrutiny. I sure hope we don't go the way of penalties a few years ago because all it really does is "throw glitter on a turd" and attempt to cover a far deeper problem.

I can't be bothered doing too much math but I just pulled 5 rounds from 2020 vs 2021 and found an average losing margin of 19.5 for 2021 vs 15.3 for 2020.

Not ultra scientific, just went through round 8-10 then chose 2 rounds at random and averaged the losing margin.

Gives us a rough idea. If anyone is willing to do the full 10 rounds be my guest 😂

Interesting to hear Gus' perspective on the matter.

His argument is that the majority of concussions occur when players put their heads in the wrong place while attempting the tackle as opposed to being hit high. It's just a theory

V'landys is arguing that the games are so much more entertaining now despite the blowouts and says the game was too robotic. Also, he blames player development as the excuse for the difference between the teams. Which just sounded like he was saying what Gus wanted him to say (which Gus explicitly said afterwards).

Does anyway know if these so called polls exist? Example, fans only want 1 ref and a faster game, we love the 6 again rule etc. Where are the nrl getting all this from?

I saw a grab from Kent last night where he says something along the lines of the fans will have to come on board with the changes, they’ve got no choice. Yes, they do have a choice, fool, they can choose to not go to games, not watch games, watch other sport, take the family to the park, go to the pub, etc. Fans have a lot of choice.

And this is the flaw in the media’s logic and in turn the NRL as I believe Vlandys gets most of his ‘intel’ from dickheads like Kent. They believe that fans will stay regardless but it simply isn’t the case. I can say this from personal experience as since these rule changes the only thing that has me watching league is the Broncos and fantasy football. Even with that I probably watch more AFL than I do league these days and if the Broncos seized to exist the only league I would watch would be Origin, that’s how much this administration has killed my passion for the game.
