What I don't get is why people think it's a problem? Most clubs these days have a "head coach" and then lots of specialised coaches who come up with game plans, attacking strategy, defensive strategy etc etc. Mal takes on that head coach role for Queensland, scouts overall talent for QLD, selects his coaching staff etc. He's no more a "figurehead" than Wayne Bennett at the Dragons!

That's exactly what I said before. The way he's coaching is working, so who cares how involved he is in every single aspect of the gameplan. The results speak for themselves.

Yes, but it's precisely that reason that I don't understand the criticism from the Tele. I don't understand why they made it sound so negative?

The problem is that they made it sound like Mal just just there for decoration and had no influence whatsoever on the Maroons game. Not exactly what people say from Benny...

No, the articles said he's there to motivate and inspire the team, and that his assistants handle the gameplan and particulars. The basis of the argument was footage of the Maroons sheds at half-time in almost every game in the past few years, where Neil Henry etc are the centre of attention, addressing the players and preparing them for the next half, and Mal stepping in at the end to say a few words before they run out. I can't understand why Mal is so incensed at the revelation that he has very intelligent people working for him.
Read today that Greg McCallum is seeking legal advice over Mal's comments. It would be a shame if it all went to court.

It won't. It's a no win situation for McCallum or the NSWRL if they choose to. It'll just further drive a wedge between QLD and NSW and create more drama.

Yeah i was thinking exactly the same thing when i first read Mals rant.

He seems very disappointed more than anything, leading me to think that maybe Ricky has done some other dirty stuff behind the scenes

I kinda wish Mal didn't write this. Don't get me wrong, everything he said is 1000% true, but I think the sweetest sense of victory is received when you just ignore the powers that be and the media and show that you can get the job done just worrying about your own game.

NSW are still a bunch of dickheads though.
