What I don't get is why people think it's a problem? Most clubs these days have a "head coach" and then lots of specialised coaches who come up with game plans, attacking strategy, defensive strategy etc etc. Mal takes on that head coach role for Queensland, scouts overall talent for QLD, selects his coaching staff etc. He's no more a "figurehead" than Wayne Bennett at the Dragons!
That's exactly what I said before. The way he's coaching is working, so who cares how involved he is in every single aspect of the gameplan. The results speak for themselves.
