Do we still regret dumping Gagai?

Maybe not Mills, as for Gagai I don't argue he couldn't have added more if he was there, but I question if it could be achieved, mentally to do so I think he would have had to have overcome his attitude to training at the Broncos cause really that was what was holding him back, otherwise a change of environment was the only other way to get the best out of him IMO. His done well to get to where he was prior to this latest setback and I'm disappointed to see old habits creeping back in, people really don't do him any favors by looking to excuses or looking for a scapegoat for him.

Oh for sure if he is going to play with fire he will get burned for sure, and so he should, very few of us get the chances or opportunities that these people get.

Would people who wanted Gagai to remain be happy if we lost a different youngster, say Oates? You can't keep them all and having Gagai stay would mean everyone is one down the pecking order and potentially looking for a start elsewhere.

Gagai did not leave for financial reasons so I don't really think that's a factor.

As for everyone being down the pecking order - that is exactly why I would have wanted him around. If Glenn doesn't play centre and Maranta doesn't play first grade then we are a better team for it.

I would rather have maranta than gagai any day of the week. Scrap that I would rather play a man down than have gagai. Attitudes like his are cancerous to a squad, we are far better off without him

Gagai had his chance, and he blew it. He may be a young bloke, but he is an adult. He has to start acting like one. I don't regret Broncos letting go of Gagai. It's a shame, though. He is a talented player and has the potential to be a force in the NRL.

The only problem I had with the Broncos was their pursuit for Dugan. We get rid of one troublemaker, only to try and sign another..

Newcastle would prob beg to differ.

Would they? If he continues doing this shit?

Maybe they can ask the raiders what happens if you keep picking selfish brats because they are talented at the expense of your teams culture.

Maybe its just what happens when he is up in QLD. Seemed to be on the straight and narrow during the year in Newy

Well we never found our about anything...

In any case, if this behaviour is somehow isolated to queensland, I'm still glad we got rid of him, unless they plan on becoming the Broken Hill Broncos

Any other young League player in Queensland would show up an hour early if given a shot at an Origin team. Shit, I'd show up wayyyyy earlier. I feel the same way about playing for the Broncos. If anyone was to risk screwing up for either of those teams they're an absolute idiot. Therefore I am glad we don't have Gagai at the club anymore.

It eases my doubts but his release certainly hurt.

A very talented player, I just hope he gets his head screwed on and is able to perform to potential. At full flight, he's a very exciting player to watch.

I remember being so excited 2011 for when he came into top grade, thought him and yow yeh would be the new tuqiri and sailor combo. I don't regret love being a club that has no tolerance but we needed him last year he needed a finisher so bad

No regrets whatsoever but he would've been useful when our attack was in dire straights last year he would've made a difference we used him as a winger. He is a centre now and at the Broncos he would be behind Hodges, Reed and Oates for a spot.

Off field incidents aside, he would be well ahead of reed and oats for a centre spot at the broncos.

If he realized how lucky he is to have so much talent, this thread would not even be here, we would have a champion

I'm not saying financial reasons was a factor, I'm saying that sheer numbers were a factor. If Gagai stays, then potentially we don't have someone like Oates, so we're still stuck with Maranta on the wing.

And I think everyone is looking at Gagai's time at the Broncos with rose coloured glasses. Seriously, he was a liability when he returned the ball. The trainers were pleading with him to put on some size, he was getting rag-dolled in every kick return, dragged back 5-10 metres, and our sets were started from the worst situation possible. The fact that he is kicking on at the Knights is irrelevant, because clearly he needed a wake-up call just to understand that you do what the trainers tell you. He wasn't doing that here.

I still love how people think a footballer's worth is his ability on the field alone. Lacking the discipline to turn up to training at an emerging Origin camp just shows he doesn't give a shit.

I'm sure he'll be right, we've all done stupid things, sometimes many times over before learning the lesson. Nearly all players go through some rubbish at some stage, even the greats. Often it just goes unreported or swept under the carpet. Unfortunately for Gagai and Qld alike, his dumb day was on an important one.

Not many of us can say that we haven't ever stuffed up opportunities in our lives. It's all about how you recover.
What you say is true, but Gagai has gone well over the threshold of what is acceptable, and if you think it was ONE dumb day, think again!

If being booted out of your club after numerous and repeated offences, forcing you to move to a another club and city, isn't enough of a wake-up call to ensure you don't repeat the same idiotic mistake for something as important to your career as the emerging Origin squad, you're the dumbest idiot on the planet, and you don't deserve the effort.
