No. The team and roster were in decline by that stage. For such a master coach he should have seen the signs and acted on it. He certainly had the influence and pull in the club to change the course if he was on his game.

We beat the roosters twice in 2018 and they’ve been untouchable since then.

It was always the wrong decision. The club was in a good state but like all clubs it could have been better. In fact the club was in such good shape that literally dozens of posters on here were brimming with optimism or are we all suddenly going to rewrite history?

I can find multiple posts stating that Seibold was inheriting a brilliant and youngish roster. I do think the Broncos had suffered a gradual decline in the defence area over the last two years of WBs tenure but our offense was still solid. The question is quite simple really. The Broncos wanted a new coach to achieve higher honours. They most certainly didn't change because they wanted poorer results.

So, was that the right decision?? NO , quite obviously. I don't give a **** about secondary intentions. They changed to improve results and that has not been the case. In fact it has been a catastrophic failure. There is no way to put another spin on it.

The Broncos should have honoured his 2019 contract and then moved on. There's no point squealing about deadwood yada yada. It was the wrong decision at that time but sure, it would probably have been the right decision 12 months later.

No
It was time to cut the cord off
I just regret the fact that they picked a rookie coach who can’t handle pressure

Wasnt he acting on it though? We were pretty erratic in 2018, but i do think to an extent he was trying to prepare us for the future. We were recruiting some pretty good young talent to go along with the rest of our squad. We wont know of course what a 2019 Wayne Bennett Broncos would have looked like. I think he knew we need to shift our focus. He was blooding some of the young players, but unlike Seibs i dont think he would have thrown so many in at once. Thats been a massive error by our current coach. Way too many have been put in who just arent ready for what Seibold has done to them.

I voted yes, but thats more down to the way it was handled rather than us moving on. We didnt do it in the right way.

The bit in bold is interesting when you look back at it this time around. He was clearly trying to have a solid succession plan in place. He was approving of Bellamy in the first place, then he was positioning Jason Demitriou when that fell through. Still not sure though why Bennett should have to be responsiible anyway for appointing his successor.

Dont agree he left us to our own devices with Henjak either. Cullen had a big hand in pushing Wayne out. Appointing Henjak was, Like Seibs, down to the board. They made the choice, not Wayne. When you look at it, even great coaches in other sports dont always appoint their successor. Sir Alex Ferguson for years wanted David Moyes to replace him at Man United, and the decision set them back years. The Board make the decisions, not the former coaches.

St George i cant really say how he left them tbh, dont know enough about it, but Newcastle had become a mess down to what Tinkler did there more than what Bennett did.
He left St George with a premiership trophy on the mantlepiece and premiership rings on their fingers. Ask any St George supporter and none of them are saying he left them in a bad state, it's only the arseholes on here and in the media who are rewriting history to push the line that WB leaves clubs worse off. It's crap and not supported by at least one of those clubs who incidentally wanted him back.

He didn't have a problem getting a high profile gig and had multiple clubs from which to choose. As you pointed out Newcastle's woes were down to Tinklers interference, the empty club coffers, the deeply embedded drug culture and a poor roster upon his own arrival. It was a club wanting a quick fix and was never prepared to rebuild with quality.

No. His nutcase behaviour after Siebold signed showed him to be a petty dickhead.

We had issues on the field while WB was coach, he never fixed them. His current run at Souths is just showing he's living off past glory.

Nope... the question is actually “Do you regret Bennett’s departure“.... not “do you regret that the board hired Seibold”

This. Bennett contributed to the shit we now find ourselves in. Big Pete has dealt with this elsewhere. Two wrongs made a third, bigger one, and with longer term consequence, as we are now discovering and enduring the hard way.

Wayne had to go but his exit was definitely handled poorly by the club, the players liked Wayne and hated the way his sacking was handled and now aren't even remotely interested in the new coach our how he runs the show because of the sacking.

It would also seem the new coach is also not up to handling this rabbles poor attitude.

The "rabbles poor attitude" is their way of chucking a tantrum. It's unfair on Seibold that he cops the flak for decisions that were not his.

The fact the players "aren't even remotely interested in the new coach our how he runs the show because of the sacking." is pathetic behaviour by any player complicit. It's selfish, self indulgent and ignores those players who want to do their best, the club and the fans. Pathetic really

If you say ‘No... but’ there’s regret

You'd have to say 'IF it's true' wouldn't you? It's a massive assumption on scant evidence and calling it fact!!! What if it's not even an issue and it's just that the players think Seibold is full of shit? I haven't heard any really glowing endorsement of Seibold lately, yes ,some at the beginning but not recently. I could have missed it if it did in fact happen.

nah see you’re still getting it wrong.. The ultimate question is do you regret Bennett’s departure... not “in hindsight do you regret Bennett’s departure and everything that’s happened since”

Maybe you should start a new poll with the specific question you want asked 👍👍
