eel's want to breech salary cap!?

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

The entire foundation of Rugby League was built on Union converts. Us League fans shouldn't be getting on our high horses.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Red Hill to see if we've expressed any interest in Folau. I know short-term it'd be a risky proposition but a back-ended deal would be ideal, especially if we're serious about shifting Hodges to fullback. Folau is the perfect replacement long term.

I would have loved to have seen Izzy spend more time at the Broncos. On paper, his two seasons were good but I still felt like his best was just right round the corner.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

I am honestly shocked at how unbothered some people are about this. Having that traitor back for origin is not worth the precedent this will set, this is outrageous IMO

how is he a traitor? he got an offer that he wouldve been a monumental idiot not to take and he took it. now hes had his gigantic payday and wants to come back to his first choice sport. he didnt stab the NRL in the back, he left after his contract ended, and hes not playing games like Money Bill or anything like that.

like i said, if its the difference between losing him for another year or having him play, ill take the eels being over the cap any day of the week.

So your not even remotely concerned about the precedent it would set and the implications it would have on the future of the salary cap? And the game itself?

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

Oh and for what it's worth, the Eels can get stuffed.

Work out the deal legally or just suck it up. If Izzy can't get back in than that's his loss. Rugby League is a money train and it's his choice whether he wants to get in on that or waste his time playing Rugby in some foreign country.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

So what was wrong with what I said? I know you just lurk in the shadows and wait for the opportunity to give people s***, but maybe just this once you could actually provide a constructive comment in regards to what I said

So you think that there is no problem allowing a team to go over the cap?

Now this part I agree with Pete.......why bend the rules for the Eels? **** 'em

if they can't afford Folau, then stiff shit......let him play for a club that can afford him, this year.

OR

they can let a couple players go

Can't have your mudcake and eat it too Eels fans.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

I agree that what the Eels are suggesting is WAAAAAAAY over the top, but I do hope something legal can be worked out to bring Folau back.

Like a club that can sign him without going over the cap.

Can you imagine Ricky's reaction if the Broncos asked the NRL to break the rules so we could sign him. (the whinging would be deafening)

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

Meh let them but 'Tax' them 50% of what they go over and feed that money into grassroots footy or something constructive. A $400,000 player turns into a $600,000 player on their books, league gets a superstar back and the kids get some extra money for equipment or lowering fees to allow more kids to play the sport.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

I don't understand why anyone is happy to say yes to this.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

Then other clubs would be asking why they're not offered the same benefit and poor clubs like Cronulla would complain about there not being an even playing field.

Parra shouldn't receive this advantage.

Then we can buy anyone we want if it's just a matter of 50% tax.

honestly? no, no im not.

the NRL are slowly - well not so slowly in lots of ways - driving the NRL into the ground anyway, so we may as well have the best players in the world playing in it before it goes all the way down. if its not this itll be banning everything under the sun until its touch footy or force-em-backs, or itll be letting ricky stuart write his own rule book every week, or coaches switching clubs and taking their entire team with them essentially just putting a different colour on a teams jersey and calling them a different team. this is a marquee player who is essentially being forced out of the game for another year because of a stupid salary cap. that is good for noone, not the player, not the game, and especially not the fans.

and folau in origin again FFS lol.

im all for just getting rid of the freaking salary cap. bring back the good old days of 'if you can afford it, go nuts'. a successful, well run team should be entitled to even more success. as it is now, you get successful for 1-2 years then you get ripped apart because of the success. if this whole 'let us breach the cap' thing gets the cap torn to shreds then im even more for it than i already am.

folau.

No player should be bigger than the game. This can't happen.

Re: Eels want to breech salary cap.

It's about fairness. When Folau, Hunt, Tuqiri, Sailor and Rogers were leaving the game their clubs asked the NRL what they could do to match the offers - in other words, legal ways to modify the salary cap. They were denied.

To do so now is just a fucking joke and completely unfair to the Broncos and Cronulla who suffered by the "raids" from other codes.

It also makes a mockery of the huge punishments the Bulldogs and Storm got for breaching the cap, and even the other clubs who cop fines of varying amounts each year for minor breaches. Usually it's stuff the club advises the NRL is going to happen due to injuries etc.

And yet now some people are happy for the Eels to say "oh, we want to get Folau, can we go over the cap this year and pay you back next year?". ****. That.
