But I would have preferred they took the moral high ground on Sonny Bill Williams rather than Izzy.

I'd like them to show the moral high ground on any of these types of issues. If someone wants to genuinely play rugby league having come from another code, great. But the game can not and should not bend over backwards to accommodate them.

This has nothing to do with NRL

Izzy not signing for the eels is entirely Izzy's decision

The NRL refused the first option (which they had every right to) and instead of a simple 'no' kept working with Para and worked out a deal that works for everybody

And what happens? Izzy says no

And you blame the NRL?

The NRL has done this before with Gasnier. When he came back from european rugby union, the Dragons tried to register him for a small amount and were refused.

well yes and no.

they refused the initial amount of something stupid like $50k, but accepted $100k with a hugely backloaded contract. then he just up and retires so they never have to pay the huge amount. dodgy as.

If the Eels were allowed to sign Folau for 110k next year and won the premiership, then at this time next year we would be listening to people complaining about the ARLC allowing the Eels to sign Folau for the small contract.

yet barely anyone even made mention of it when it happened with Gasnier/Dragons/Bennett. funny that.

Gasnier signed on june 28th 2010 i think. did not play full season

Which is a fair point, so the 100-150k for the first year was really for half a year so you'd double the value.
