FOOTBALL English Premier League 23/24 Discussion

I think its a fantastic achievement considering its only been done once before. People always go on about their spending, but their net spend in the last 5 years is below all of their main rivals and even below West Ham, Wolves and Villa. They have just been too smart in the market and too good on the field.
A net spend that is laundered through sponsorship they own both in kits which are the highest in the league and the stadium which is the highest of all sports stadiums on the planet, there is a reason they are under investigation.

It would be next to impossible to keep that team within FFP rules without it.

Yet to be proven they have done anything wrong. It really is just bitter opposition fans imo that get at them. I think its hilarious people have a pop at them like every other football team do nothing wrong. Not saying they are angels in how they have made use of their wealth and contacts, but imo they have clearly exploited loopholes like most other clubs. They have just been better at doing it. If the time comes they are ever found to have done something wrong, then i'm sure all their success will be stripped away.

Look at Villa, done well this season on the back them selling their stadium a couple of years ago to a company owned controlled by their owners. Or Everton who have clearly broken FFP rules and managed to stay in the premier league because of it. Nobody cares because they havent been winning trophies though. Like most English fans, i loathe the scumbag six clubs in the premier league, but i cant go all in on Citeh when they are all at it to some degree.

Have any of these clubs been charged with breaking FFP over 100 times like City has? it's like suggesting someone breaking the speed limit 100 times should get away with a minor infringement because everyone else speeds too. It's a lazy, nonsense argument.

A charge isnt a conviction. They have been charged in the past and found to have done nothing wrong. The only thing they got done for was not fully cooperating with Uefa and it was found there just wasnt enough evidence to convict them. I dont see them getting punished this time either. Dont kid yourself into thinking if they can get Citeh, they wont go after other teams as well. There will be plenty who have done dodgy deals.

Like i said, at the moment its just bitter rival fans hoping this will derail them, especially the united fans because they are usurping them as the best ever side in English football. If they get caught, i hope they get slammed for it, but if i had my way, i'd kick out all of that vile group of six clubs out of English football anyway. I dont have any time for them and neither do most fans in England.

I didn't follow the UEFA case too closely but from memory I think they fucked up because they enacted rules and then tried to charge them retrospectively, something weird like that.

The PL one seems to be different though. Like I said, I dont have an issue with them spending money, I have an issue with how they get it because that's the rules currently in place - if any other club is blatantly cheating the rules to the same extent, they're yet to go public with it. There will always be billionaire owners but state backed ones with more money than god - those are the reason why these rules are in place, not that it seems to be bothering city at all.

Uefa, despite them using retrospective action, lost the case because when the CAS looked into the case the evidence just wasnt there. The time involved was a factor, but if they cant come up with compelling evidence they have no chance.

Citeh are just the obvious target right now because of their profile. If they can take them down i guarantee you others will follow. The premier league are unreliable and untrustworthy anyway. Everton, like i mentioned are way, way off with FFP for the 2022/23 season so why did they not get a points deduction that would have seen them relegated? Why were Newcastle allowed to be taken over by the Saudi's who in no way should have passed the fit and proper person test for club ownership? You could find fault with so many things if you want to.

At the end of the day, Citeh wont lose the case. As dodgy as i think Citeh are, the Premier league simply dont have the financial muscle to take on Mansour and the UAE.

I think it's a bit pre emptive though, the investigation on them hasn't ended yet and it's the most serious one to date.

We will see i guess. As i said previously, regardless of how dodgy i think they are, or how other fans of rival clubs see them, i just dont see them ever facing consequences.

From my perspective, FFP is just flawed as it is. How can you make clubs in European competition for a start use a different set of FFP rules to the premier league. Its crazy. They should just scrap FFP.

The League rules are to stop the dodgy owners killing clubs mostly, but the UEFA FFP is more of the bigger Clubs stopping the Oligarchs from buying European trophies(such as Man City and PSG).

This investigation is the Premier League though and the Government has also gotten involved in making the independent regulator for it which we don't have much info on yet, I don't think there will be a problem cracking down on City if rules are found to be broken compared to the Flawed UEFA system, as well as having the ability to give out much harsher punishments as well, but I suspect it's not going to be quick.

The Issue here isn't that Man city at current can't sustain it, the issue is if circumstances change and the owners have to sell the club, it can very easily capitulate in it's current guise given what is holding up it's operation to lower the "Net Losses".

They wont be worried at all about the Government. Citeh have the financial muscle to drag it out if they want to, and they can afford it. The British government cant, the premier league cant.

FFP in UEFA is totally ridiculous as its tied to the clubs specific league as well as European competition. When we were playing in the Europa league a couple of years ago, we fell foul of UEFA FFP despite meeting the premier league criteria. UEFA FFP as well as FFP in the premier league is there to keep the competitions a closed shop. Its basically making a pseudo Superleague. Our owners for example could fund our club if they wanted to and turn us into a top side. They cant do that because of FFP. There are plenty of others who could break into that top six easily but they are held back by outdated and ridiculous FFP rules. Should just be scrapped.

UEFAs FFP is the easier one to get around though, they just want losses capped a something like 60 mil Euros which can also be gamed with long contracts as each transfer with a player coming in gets divided for each season their contract is, yet when selling it doesn't.

The punishments they can deal only involve their competitions which are increasingly becoming irrelevant for Premier league teams Financially.

The Biggest issue is the limits for Losses are a static number rather than a Percentage, which is stupid and makes no sense.

The inevitable is finally happening and looks like we are losing Neves, but its the Saudi's who are getting him bizarrely. I knew he wouldnt join another premier league club, he always wanted Barcelona but they are a mess.

Its a shame for him in some ways because he's a fantastic footballer, he could do a lot better but a reported fee of about $90 million is good for us and $1 million a week in wages is generational wealth for Ruben.

Still the best goal i've ever seen from a Wolves player, and he has a few others under his belt as well

Spurs first home game next season is against Man United according to reports.

....the issue was, yes there "was" evidence of wrongdoing, but the arbitration commision didnt allow it as it occured outside the statue of limitations.

UEFA has time limits on offences, the EPL does not, and thats a huge difference maker between the two cases against Citeh...

A tough watch if you are a Wolves fan. Confirmed he's leaving now ( which we all knew anyway ). Brilliant player ( cant understand for the price he is going for why other clubs havent gone for him tbh ) humble and genuinely nice bloke who's clearly very emotional about leaving ( unlike a lot of modern day footballers when they move clubs ). He's getting some stick for going to Saudi but i hope it works for him. He's put his family and their future first even at the expense of the best years of his career probably.

I hope for your sake he isn't loaned to Newcastle. Low tier sources reporting it though tbf.

I think he is a far better player than the Saudi League though.

I dont think he will end up there tbh. He doesnt seem keen on playing against Wolves but at the same time pretty much all the major Saudi clubs are owned by that despicable bin Salman and the Saudi PIF so while unlikely, it could well happen.

He is way, way better that the Saudi league, and tbh, i dont really think he wanted to leave Wolves unless it was for Barcelona, but how does a young man with a young family basically turn down a pay of a million a week? Its life changing, generational wealth for him. Still cant believe when you could pick him up for half the price of a Declan Rice, and he is easily as good if not better than him, that other teams in the Premier league havent tried to get him. Only thing i can think of he told Jorge Mendes he doesnt want to play against Wolves.
