Ennis For The Exit

This would suck major if it was true [icon_thumbs_do

Ennis has been going so well for us, and has made a real difference to the side.

[icon_pray. Dont be true!

I'm far more concerned about having a shot duck in Lockyer than no Ennis. We can find a hooker, and PJ Marsh is capable of being the first choice and then having a younger player as bench utility.

Far harder to make up for a busted arse captain and five-eighth though.

I love the bloke, my favourite all time player, but if he keeps trying to rush back with that knee his career will be over.

Can't compare Petero and Ennis.Civo was like 'family'.It hurt to see him go and it still hurts me to see him in the Panthers colors.
I'm not comparing the situation they found themselves in, or the players themselves. I'm comparing the reactions of people on this forum. Many thought that seeing Petero leave would have us struggling to win games. That simply isn't the case and I'm just pointing out that Ennis leaving may be the same as that.

Talking of this the other night. Each one that has left there has been just that one older player left to take over and when TC goes we were saying that Hennant and co have had their experience under an older player.
We lose some of our heroes as time goes on but as always there is always another steps in and takes the same role in our eyes.
Not saying Ennis has stepped into the hero worship role though. We do though need a specialist hooker and he seems to be what we need atm.

Coxy writes about Locky in that role and yet I read many on here who have been saying we don't need Locky now as we have Wallace.Crap! We need Lockyer.
Obviously not as much as Lockyer needs the Broncs or he wouldn't have stuffed around trying to play Tests and Origin before considering his team and his bread and butter.Hash?Yep  Angry with the poor bugger.

Falou > Ennis

Where's the problem?

Problem is, we haven't had a good hooker since Priddis. One of the reasons why we've done so well this year is because of the form of Michael Ennis who is finally starting to show his true potential. Sure, he's not a world class player yet but he's showing glimpses of it (Like he did at St George too) and to lose someone of Ennis quality in a specialist position is going to be like taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps back.

Ennis is quality and to just let him go would be ridiculous.

Read my later posts Shauny - I like Ennis too but he's not a Smith, Farah or even a Buderus. Marsh will be able to do a similar job as Ennis as been doing lately (see the Cowboys game for evidence) in tandem with whoever gets a shot from a lower grade. To lose him and pick up a genuine star like Falou is like trading in a slightly worn out Corolla to get a brand new BMW.

That's actually partly my problem with Folau. Like a BMW, you're paying at least 20% overs just for the name.

Perhaps - but who's got more upside - Ennis or Falou? A no-brainer if you ask me.

Meh, here nor there on this issue. We can't keep them all and whilst Ennis is going okay at present the other week most of you guys were castising him for being a diver and unsportsmanlike and don't want him at the club. Early season when PJ was killing it he was the savior and it was Ennis who.........make up your friggin minds. Anything so you can all criticise Bruno again.

Ennis will go where the money is, always has, always will, he is that sort of player. I would much rather us concentrate on re-signing the likes of Hannant and Boyd, and for mine also David Stagg as he is our new utility like Berro and Plath before him, and we as a club need that sort of player in our fold.

Unfortunately we will lose some players, but we will unearth new ones along the way also. As for Falou we have signed a guy who is potentially the best player in the game and you guys are blaming Bruno for that. He was coming back to Brisbane no matter what, so it was either us or Titans, I'd rather him play for us.

Get on with it guys, support the team on the park now and worry about next year in 2009.

For mine, it's now a question of making the best with what we've got, and will have.

That means winning the premiership this year, and next, using Marsh at 9 with a younger hooker on the bench, and hope Folau delivers on his reputation and price.

Falou could be the best, he could also be the next big signing like Benji or Sonny.

Why shouldn't we discuss our team's future as we see it right now? While I agree everyone was hitting him with the diver label, so what?

As fans of the club, we should have the right to discuss our futur on the field too.

Did I hear Nashy just say something................no must have just been the wind !!!!!

[eusa_clap.gi Brilliant post! Oh Russo, you are so wise.

Please, if you feel the need to back yourself up, feel free to tell me why we shouldn't be allowed to post opinions about the teams furture.

Exactly my problem with this too Russo. So many people just a matter of weeks ago wanted to get rid of Ennis for various reasons, from him not showing his potential to the unsportsmanlike behaviour he was supposedly showing. Now that he's played a couple of good games, it's like doomsday is here if we were to get rid of him. [icon_shru I'm having trouble keeping up!

Nashy, you're dead right in that we should all be able to discuss the future of this club, but deadset some people are changing their mind as often as they change their underwear! Some people are just so damn negative and seem to think that if one good player goes, that the broncos are forever condemned to a life at the bottom of the ladder or something.

What is the point of having a forum if we can't discuss the broncos?

Again, I think this is a poor decision if it pans out this way. We have a heap of outside backs, we have 2 hookers.

The only caveat I can see is that there may be a further reduction of interchanges in the wind for next year and beyond, making the 2 hookers option look less favourable. In which case maybe P.J marsh looks the finacially better option.

I still don't agree though. I have whinged for years about the broncos having no comprehension of the importance of the hooker position.

I guess I'll just keep on whinging..

I think you might be missing my point Bob. No issues with people discussing the broncos in any capacity, it's the fickleness that drives me mad and the fact that one week most people can't stand a bloke but then he puts in a few good performances and it's the end of the world if he leaves. I'm not saying I think it's a good decision to get rid of Ennis, but the bottom line is that if he doesn't fit in under the cap, then someone has to go. That's just the way the cookie crumbles unfortunately.

My point would be though that next year we'll have 2 international backs (Hodges and Falou) and 1 classy hooking option (Marsh). This year we have 1 international back and 2 class hookers.

I guess it's a matter of choice which you'd prefer.

In fairness, Harmichael is an international back too. Even though there's a growing chorus of dissenters toward him.

And despite not being internationals, I think Michaels and particularly Boyd have proven this year they are classy in their own rights.

PJ Marsh is 28 years old. He'd be reasonably body fresh given he spent 2 years out of the game with injury. He'd have a good 3-5 years in him.

That's enough time to play the leading hooking role at the Broncos, and groom a youngster into the spot.

Honestly, I'm not feeling all sky is falling over Ennis. It'd be nice to keep him, but meh.

I'm more concerned, FAR more concerned, with losing Hannant, and even Boyd.
