Needs to be suspended if they are serious about the shoulder charge ban. The “I had no choice because we were at top speed” is rubbish
For those who haven't seen it:
Except Boyd pushed him using his hands and the only other contact was made with his hipDarius Boyd did the exact same thing against the Roosters stopping Manu from scoring and he wasn't charged.
I've seen these happen a few times over the years and no one was charged. Slater won't be.
Except Boyd pushed him using his hands and the only other contact was made with his hip
Smith had come out and said he will retire if they win the Gf
No it wasnt. Thats got nothing to do with it. A head high is a head high, hitting the head is illegal and banned already. The shoulder charge was banned for the mountains of evidence that it causes brain damage.
“The NRL banned the shoulder charge after evidence showed the average G-force from one is 10.682 compared to 6.056 from the conventional front-on tackle.
Overall, shoulder charges are 76 per cent greater in impact than the conventional front-on tackle.”
And for me shoulder charges are piss weak.. you want to hit a bloke a bloke as a sign of toughness? Do it front on and under the ribs. Shoulder charges are almost always from the side, where the player you hit doesnt see you, and they are no risk to the defender. Its about as tough as a cowards punch.
He will only retire if it helps him look good. He wants that 400 game legacy. If there’s 1 thing his “sudden” retirement from rep footy showed, c smith worries about himself first. Its why he has had such an amazing career, but its also blemished his career for me. To say he didnt know what was happening in 2007-2010 is ridiculous. Hes a smart guy. Additionally, he can also proudly claim playing a major role in the wrestling phenomenom that is now carried out by under 6’s. Seeing the arm bars and chokes carried out by kids is probably why his own kids play afl... greatest rugby league mind of his generation, and i think he among the greatest players of all time if not the greatest, but i will never hold him in the same regard as lockyer, thurston, lewis or langer as he and his organisation would sooner kill the game of rugby league then see themselves lose....He said he would consider it, not that he definitely will.
The media asked him if he would and he answered them.
