he is top5 for sure cant deny that. But its pathetic how much Hype he got due to 8good weeks.

Oh I can and I will. Hayne is one of the top 5 most exciting and damaging players when everything is going his and his team's way.

However, week in, week out I wouldn't have him in the top 5 fullbacks in the game.

Dude, week in week out last year he was voted the best player in the comp. No matter how you try and spin it Hayne is obviously one of the best 5 fullbacks in the comp right now otherwise he wouldn't have won the Dally M and his team wouldn't have surged from near the spoon to the 8 and then the GF, a run which he was instrumental in. On last year how anyone could put Mackinnon, Stewart and Hunt particularly ahead of Hayne is just crazy.

LOLZ! Dally M understanding fail.

Dally M's aren't a good measure at all. You can't honestly tell me that Matt Orford is in the top 5 halfbacks in the game, and he won the Dally M and his team won the GF.

Oh and for the record I am not arguing that Hayne isn't one of the best fullbacks in the comp, because right now I think he is, just saying just because he won a medal voted by bias journalists means jack all really.

It does mean something. Most Dally M's go to the best or near best player on the form of that season. Although the lack of one in Lockyer's trophy cabinet is a gross oversight. Orford was very good the year he won the medal, the game's best player absolutely not but he did lead a very good Manly side around the paddock to the top of the pile and outside of his consistently poor showings in big games (barring the 08' semi's and grand final) he is a very consistent halfback who lays a lot of tries on for his side.

I disagree. He was a standout for the Blues in every game he played for them, despite QLD running them over.
I'm not a fan of him, or of any athlete that gets that much hype after achieving so little (oh hello Daniel Mortimer/Lewis Hamilton/JaMarcus Russell), but he does have the ability to carry a team. Sure, he's only shown that ability for half a season, but it's there. I am fking sick of hearing about him though.
He is definitely not going to be remembered forever if he can't back this season up, but if you offered me him at the back versus, say, Billy Slater, I'd choose Hayne.
But again, the hype far outweighs the accomplishments.

He's only young, he's only had 3 seasons in NRL which people are forgetting. What he did in the 2nd half of last year was outstanding. Someone who has shown that sort of talent usually always carries it on in their career. I am certain that he'll back it up in the coming years.

Let's not forget his first season was pretty damn good as well.

All you really need to look at is how he goes under the high ball - he is woeful. As I said, he is a skillful player with ball in hand but as a fullback? No thanks.

Hayne has talent, no question. But he has no idea how to apply himself to a big game.

He also has no idea how to play as a fullback - I wouldn't even rank him in the top 5 fullbacks going around today.

[icon_lol1. That is funny. He won a Dally M playing fullback but isn't one of the best 5 fullbacks in the game currently. Name 5 better ones I dare you.

Easy.

1. Slater
2. Stewart
3. Hunt
4. Boyd
5. McKinnon

All are better at the defensive aspects of fullback play, and all are just as good/better support players, or as good with ball in hand (excluding Hayne's golden run to the finals which is what earnt him his dally M).

LOL @ this comment.

Its absolutely incredible that someone who watches as much league as you clearly do can post this type of garbage. Hayne's "golden run to the finals" as you call it involved him pretty much single-handedly ripping team after team apart. God, even forgetting the top 4 you have just rated McKinnon over Jarred fukking Hayne. Incredible shit.

"or as good with ball in hand". Lol, none of those guys are even on the same galaxy as Hayne as attacking players. Sure they may be good support players in that Hayne is the one always making the breaks, but to say any of those guys are as damaging in attack as Hayne is beyond ridiculous. I mean, Karmichael? I love Hunt but to say he is EVEN CLOSE to being as good as Hayne with ball in hand is borderline retarded.

Edited by schmix: Say what you like about the topic at hand but keep the personal comments out of it.

So your calling him these things because he has an opnion outside of yours?

For the final 8 or so weeks Hayne was the best player in the NRL for sure. Before that he was just average and imo not in the top fullbacks or even backs.

I personally think he's a 5/8th

I think that is even more credit to him. It's very hard to make an impact from out on the wing.

Wow, I want to know what robbie called me! :P

Ah. He called me a handsome devil? Cool.

Whatever it is is flattering, because the notion Hayne was the only reason Parramatta won games at the back end of last year is completely and utterly insulting to their forward pack and Daniel Mortimer who were instrumental in laying the platform.

What's the one game where their forwards and Mortimer didn't get on top? The Grand Final.

Remind me how Hayne went in that game?

I rest my case.

Yeah.

I'm not saying Mortimer was the real match winner and Hayne didn't deserve his regular 3 point awards from the journos. For the casual, half hearted observer (as sports journalists are) he was the most dominant player on the field because he was scoring a lot of the tries and making the breaks etc.

To those who actually understand rugby league, they could acknowledge the work of Mortimer, Keating, Moi Moi, Hindmarsh, Cayless etc that set the foundation for Hayne to do what he did.
