Yep i noticed that part. We are just waiting for the Storm to release Inglis is what i get from that article. It does say that Inglis and his manager expect Melbourne to release him so i hope their rite!!

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Greg Inglis may yet have a future at the Melbourne Storm after the NRL club revealed that three players have signed deals with English club Wigan.

Seeking to slash $1.325 million worth of talent to get under the salary cap, the club has started to chip away at its wages bill with Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima and Brett Finch confirmed departures to the Super League side.

Inglis - one of the "big four" at the Storm along with Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk - was thought to be on the cusp of a deal with Brisbane but the Melbourne side's earlier suggestion they were still in the hunt for the superstar centre may yet ring true.

"There has been renewed interest (from Brisbane) but in terms of any finalisation or requests for a release, nothing could be further from the truth there," Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said earlier on Monday.

"He's (Inglis) been linked to the Broncos but in terms of getting close to a signature, it's premature, if it's going to happen at all.

"He might be leading people up the garden path because at this stage he's got a contract for the next two years with the Melbourne Storm and that's where it stands."

The trio's departure may have trimmed just under half of the $1.325m figure the Storm need to reach to get under the cap.

It had followed five years of systematic breaches which cost the club two NRL premierships and the capacity to earn competition points in 2010.

Second rower Hoffman, prop Lima and five-eighth Finch will leave Melbourne at the end of this NRL season and reunite with ex-Storm assistant coach, Michael Maguire, the current Wigan head coach.

Hoffman, who spent eight years with the Storm, hoped his departure opened the door for someone else.

"It was a very tough decision to go but hopefully, with me taking this opportunity overseas, it will give someone else the chance to have the same great experiences that I have had here," he said.

"I'm proud and honoured to have been able to play for the Storm."

Storm coach Craig Bellamy said it was tough to farewell players who had made such a mark in their time in Melbourne.

"It's always a sad time when you have to say farewell to one player, let alone three," said Bellamy.

Another sticking point to a proposed Inglis move to Brisbane is Melbourne's commitment to getting full price for their Queensland and Australian representative.

The Broncos have refused to up their initial $400,000 offer for the centre, despite it being well short of his current Storm deal reportedly worth $660,000.

Any shortfall would count towards the Storm's cap next year and the embattled club are adamant such a situation will not arise.

NRL.com wouldnt have any idea what's going on!

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Hoffman and Lima would of been on what around 200k mark? Finch wouldn't have been on much either after signing last year for minimum wage after he left the Eels.

Just a beat up..should only be a matter of time till Inglis is unveiled as a Bronco.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Im starting to feal as though the longer this is drawn out the less and less chance we have of signing him

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Storm don't want to pay the difference.

They expect the Broncos to pay what he is getting at the Storm.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Why should we be paying him the massive overs he is on at the Storm? Ridiculous! No-one could afford GI if he has to be on the same salary-cap breaching contract that he currently is on.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Maybe we should give him a Zeppelin, since hes already got a boat

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Peeps, the $400k is the Broncos supported salary part. The rest is supposedly coming from 3rd party deals, well suported through Brisbane's corporate network.

It's nerve wrecking, but when all the involved (including the Storm) are confirming the evolution of the matter and the manager mentions the offer has been accepted, but is waiting on the Storm, who are clearly clutching at straws, it would seem all we need now is patience to see official confirmation. Chill icon_thumbs_u

In the meanwhile, let's all just pray just in case!

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Broncos offer was $400,000 & it seems like his manager found Inglis 3rd party of about $100,000

So the Storm will still have to pay $100,000 to $160,000, depending on what news site you believe.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

What exactly is the storm paying?

Wrong. Those third party deals are not to be included from our salary cap, they are just third party deals that will not be affiliated with the club. So Storm will still have to pay 260k or what ever it is remaining next year even if they release Inglis.

Which is why I've been saying they need to lose one and very, very possibly two. The fact is their inflated salaries need to be paid from the Storms cap next year because no other club will match them.

For Inglis that's the same as reducing Storms cap by 250k next year so essentially they have to get rid of 1.575million worth of players to fit in next year and the same goes for any other released player whose salary is not matched by the club that signs him. The difference in contracts is deducted from next years cap to artificially reduce their cap.

The only chance Melbourne have of not being completely rooted is if the NRL agree to not include the contract difference of each player under next years cap.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

1) Warriors will NOT win the comp - I'll put that on record

2) Whoever backed the Broncos at $51 or so.... great stuff!!!! I backed them at 21.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

A Deloitte investigation found Gainey and Moses signed two contracts for their clients Inglis and Smith.

One was an official NRL contract, the second a "side" contract with a different - and inflated - amount of money.

If deregistered, the NRL will refuse to register a contract negotiated by the agent.

Gainey is currently negotiating a deal for Inglis at Brisbane.

Doesn't sound to good

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

So does that mean Inglis can still sign but Gainey can't be the one signing for him?

Well if Inglis signs that deal when Melbourne realease him it means we have him for 4 years!

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

It's come out today saying he might stay.

Re: Greg Inglis walks away from...

Meaning the Storm won't accept the Broncos deal.
