Haas - Off Field Dramas

Pretty sure White said that's not true. The story that he didn't talk to them is incorrect.

Did you catch the presser? All I got was this bit from the Broncos statement on their website.

“But Payne’s level of cooperation with the investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit fell short of the expectations and the standards set by our club,” said White.

And that’s worth $20k and 4 weeks?

Sends a very strong message to the playing group that our club doesn't **** around with these things. He got made an example of just as he would have if Bennett was still in charge here.

I'm not fabricating anything. You need to go to bed mate, you're not thinking.

He didn't speak to the IU. He DID do that wrong. Fact.

When you say might three times in back to back sentences you’re making shit up.

There’s no way for me to know the timeline and there’s no way for you to know either Him being cleared of any wrongdoing is where his involvement should have ended.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Not dobbing your mates in (or family) is like an age old rule......not least for a teenager where 'belonging' to something (gang, group etc) is so critical. So I understand why he might have felt pressure to do it.

Having said that, with the shit storm going on at the moment in the media around player behaviour and the fact that it was 2 incidents, you feel the Bronco's had to come down on him, probably on the harsh side to send a message. That plus there is a new Coach wanting to set his own standards and culture.

When you put this alongside the rumours of Roberts acting up a couple of times on the piss (pulling someone's hair?) early last year, with no action taken it does seem a bit of an over reaction.

Either way, the Broncos have made their bed and need to sleep in it. They have to pull the trigger for every offence now.

Hass now needs to show that he is better than the average teenager, who would probably hold a grudge and crack the sulks because 'life is so unfair and I didn't even do anything' and really pull his socks up and show he has learnt his lesson.

He has no better person to look to than Lodge (I'm not comparing the transgressions). Tune the noise out and put his nose to the grindstone.

Fingers crossed he does that.

PS. I'm super pissed about this. I wanted Hass coming off the bench to run over Cam Smith.....over and over again and get our season off to a flyer.

That begs the question, who do we think will take his spot? An old head, Taga or Fensom, or another young gun like Carrigan or Fledger (I don't know much about either)?

Haas' brother has now been suspended twice for off-field stuff from the QRL. Happened again and Haas refuses to talk- people are applauding him enabling off field incidents.

Really.
I am not applauding him enabling off field incidents. I’m saying a fine and counseling would have been appropriate but don’t think handicapping the team by suspending him was necessary. I want to win games.
The Broncos are a club not a cult. They should be careful about how hard they go when driving a wedge between a player and his family.

No, because it's clear he hasn't fulfilled his club obligations. I'm giving you scenarios as to why you might be wrong. You're just saying "Hurr durr didn't break law, he's good to play"

If he's required to do any more than he did the club needs to rethink the obligations the players have to the club. The club is not more important than family. I'm not saying hurr durr whatever that fucking means, I'm just disagreeing vehemently with the clubs decision. It's a fucking joke.

it sounds like this was a code of conduct breach more than anything ... the same code of conduct that Haas had to agree to in order to get his $3 million contract.

the club have just sent strong message that breaching our code of conduct will not be tolerated.

it is a good thing the club didn't say to themselves, "well, he is a talented player and the breach wasn't too serious, so we'll let it slide this time" ...

if more clubs had have sent similar messages to what we have just sent, then may there are less off field incidents happening right now

You're still making out like they're the police. They have a job to make sure the game and club isn't bought into disrepute. Anyway, agree to disagree. Sounds like standards in conduct isn't high on your list of priorities in life.

The Intregity unit might have had the power to stand Haas down and been intent on using it. Is it possible the club came up with a compromise actually helping Haas out and mollifying the NRL?
The only way to have strong governance is to give the Integrity arm real teeth. Haas may be getting off lightly.

I still can't believe his own family actually put him in this position. The family thing works both ways. They could easily have spoken up themselves so any integrity unit didn't need to bring him into it.

That's fine then. But if you are willing to breach your contract in order to protect family, you can at least expect to cop whatever punishment comes your way from it. You don't get off scott-free because it's your priority.

It looks like he has copped it, doesnt mean I have to agree with it.

Systematically use performance enhancing drugs over the course of several years, 3 game ban.

Don't divulge all information to the integrity unit in regards to minor physicsl incidents that you were not involved in, 4 game ban.

Fans want change and harsh sentences.

Fans complain when changes made to give players harsh sentences.

you might have a point if it was the NRL doing the banning ... but since these penalties are club imposed, this comment would only have relevance if our players were the ones systematically using PED's

I can't see any circumstances where there NRL would intervene in a clubs disciplinary matters, to LESSEN the penalties imposed
