Haas - Off Field Dramas

Yea ok I can understand a punishment should be implemented but bloody hell thats harsh.

Systematically use performance enhancing drugs over the course of several years, 3 game ban.

Don't divulge all information to the integrity unit in regards to minor physicsl incidents that you were not involved in, 4 game ban.

Be under investigation on rape charges, free to play.

Dont snitch on your brother - 4 weeks.

which Broncos player is under investigation for rape

You know full well who i'm referring too.

I imagine the integrity unit was involved in that as well, but maybe they were cooperated with in this instance so it doesn't matter.

Clubs should be looking after their employee's welfare first and foremost. Coming down with ridiculous punishments like a 4 week suspension and 20k for simply refusing to talk about family is absurd.

I don't care if the integrity unit is not the cops, if that's the case, there's even less reason to talk. Any lawyer with half a brain is not going to tell you to talk to your employer about a criminal matter.

No one here knows the full story, we can only go off what the media and club and has said which isn't very much. It's total over kill. A one game suspension, a 10k fine, some counselling, maybe a politically correct course would have been appropriate.

So next time a player gets drunk and gets on the news for something stupid, we'd better suspend them for 24 rounds with 200k to keep things consistent and fair if we're banning someone for simply refusing to talk to the NRL about an incident where they committed no wrong doing.

Fans want harsher sentences given to players who commit crime, not to players who have the misfortune of having dickheads for siblings.

Oh some of them also want to know that every player in the league understands that when your HR department, no matter what it's called, comes knocking, you talk.

you're comparing apples and oranges ...

Haas was fined and suspended by the Brisbane Broncos not the NRL

and just maybe this club cares about it's players behaviour and adherence to the code of conduct more than the Dragons do.

Are you a HR manager or something? Seem to have it pretty hard for HR.

I only hope it's what @Huge said and it's a case of the club suspending him before the NRL does, in which case they explained how he could have handled it better and they're actually looking after him by suspending him instead of the NRL.

Broncos fined Clinton 50k and two games in 2009 for breaching Code of Conduct that's the biggest the board ever fined.

Don't breach the Code of Conduct, it's not hard.

I understand that the situations aren't exactly the same. It was a comparison to highlight how ridiculous the club is being. The dragons player is only an alleged offender at this point so is afforded the innocent until guilty whatever - but Haas is innocent of doing all but not talking to an integrity unit, perhaps concerned that his 'testimony' for lack of a better word would further incriminate his brother.

I understand he hasn't fully cooperated with the integrity unit but that's too heavy handed IMO. He wasn't involved in the brawls but was in the vicinity...**** sake.
Clubs fucked this up I'd say. Knee jerk reaction. 1 game and 2500 would have been enough. We're in the news again now for the wrong reason and losing our star forward for the first month of the season for **** all!! Dick move by the Broncos.

Disagree.

If my "HR" team wanted to compel me to talk about a criminal matter under police investigation by my family, that I had no involvement in, I'd happily tell them to get fucked. I'd happily take them to court too if they decided I can no longer be employed because I refused to give them details.

“But Payne’s level of cooperation with the investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit fell short of the expectations and the standards set by our club,” said White.
It's as vague as PR statements go but "level of cooperation" lol, anything past I have no idea sir is way more than necessary. This isn't a workplace incident, he committed no wrong doing. It's not his job to be a witness over other employee's behaviour.

Download
this would be the only HR that Nashy has any understanding of.

My personal guess is that the integrity unit didn't really care that much about Haas not going in to details, as they were satisfied he didn't do anything wrong. I'd say they contacted Seibold and said that Haas didn't fully cooperate, but they're satisfied he did no wrong doing, and probably recommended a minor in-house punishment for not fully cooperating with them (1 trial game suspension seems fair). But Seibold wants to make his mark, be the "new Bennett" with the "tough love" or whatever. So my guess is that Haas is more or less a scapegoat for Seibold to make his mark on the playing group / fan base.
