Haas - Off Field Dramas

If you do not believe that this was deserving of more than token punishment you are having a laugh. The effective analogy is refusing to answer a question in court or in a star chamber which is usually regarded as being contempt. For contempt you get locked up indefinitely until you purge your contempt.

It may well be the case that us stepping in is to avoid the NRL imposing something worse given that it appears that the NRL has now reached F for full regarding misconduct incidents.

This is such a bullshit and dishonest take. Exactly what I meant by the media treating him the same way they treat criminals. He messed up but the club should have released their announcement before allowing the media to create uproar about it and make it look worse than it is.

What the hell is that tweet supposed to mean?

What the hell has he gotten away with? What system has he beat? He copped a 4 suspension FFS

But how do you know what he has actually done/hasn’t done? White has said that it is not true that he refused to talk to them but that’s about all we know. I’m not saying it’s not a fair punishment, I’m saying, how do we know?
If anybody says, you don’t need to know the facts, just trust me, I immediately become suspicious.

I highly doubt this is entirely club imposed.. no way in hell
Integrity unit have their egos hurt and after the off season the game has had, I 100% believe this is the NRL telling the BRONCOS what to do. That's why it went from 2 weeks and 10,000 to 4 weeks and 20,000. Cause the threat of the ban and give didn't work, he still stayed quiet, so they doubled it

Well I dunno about you guys, but I've got even more respect for Payne now. Would've done the same thing in the same situation, family over footy, no brainer. Can't wait for him to get back and smash some *****.

I'm pretty sure Moley is referring to Haas showing other players a way to beat the system and get a small suspension even after doing something bad.

Do something bad, refuse to talk, and cop just a 4 game ban. But it's a flawed theory really.

So after being told that "Payne Haas stood there and do(sic) nothing" the NRL decided to investigate? If it is an alleged physical altercation why is this person phoning the NRL to tell them somebody did nothing and not the police to tell them person x assaulted me? This is very dangerous ground the NRL is wandering into.

Weren't there other Cowboys players present who did nothing when Ben Barba assaulted his girlfriend at the casino?

I still don't see what this has to do with the NRL, was the altercation a rugby league game?

The NRL is evidently initiating the Good Samaritan law, any players in the vicinity of a crime who do not actively try and stop it, will now be investigated by the integrity unit, if they do not comply and supply a good enough reason as to why they didn't intervene, 4 game ban.

Let's see where this leads.

There must be more to the story suerly, ffs l remember pictures of Wade Ghram rocking up to a ASADA hearing in thongs and singlet; where was the respect there and he got 3 weeks all up. Last time l recall a penalty this harsh it involved Joel Clinton. What did we fine him $50k, but the idea was to get rid of him. This is either a massive overreaction.

Sorry, let me spoon feed it.

They spoke to them, and were obviously happy with how they did.

I really don't see the difference. Payne Haas stood there and did nothing and Cowboys players stood there and did nothing. But then again NRL has never been known for their consistency have they.

It's not the NRL, so fact check that.

He's not in trouble for not doing anything. He's in trouble because the Broncos were not happy with his responses to the integrity unit.

Which makes me think of @Sirlee oldman's excellent post yesterday.

I really don’t understand what this club is about anymore.
They made a bold decision to go in a new direction with the coaching but didn’t want to look like bad guys by sacking Bennett so we had an enormously damaging saga while they tried to get him to quit.
We get over that and everyone (including our enemies down south) realise we have a cracking roster with depth so what do we do? We sacrifice that depth by helping out our biggest rival in a time of need and letting them have Kahu. Of course it’s great for Kahu and we can all feel warm inside about that until Boyd starts hopping around on his hamstring again. Kahu might have started in ISC but the reality is he would have been very handy with any injuries and State of Origin and probably have played plenty of 1st Grade. But hey, we’re really nice guys.
Now we are suspending one of our hottest young talents because he wouldn’t dob in his family. Seriously! This in the same week that the Dragons refuse to stand down a player accused of rape. Even if there was footage of DeBelin committing the crime I guarantee he would have pleaded not guilty so he could play and the Dragons would have supported him to increase their chances of winning.
I could understand a fine but suspending Haas is ridiculous. We must really like losing.

We just seem to love shooting ourselves in the foot these days.
