Henjak WTF!

Carlaw played centre under Bennett too.

Played Carroll and Thaiday at five eigth back in 2007.

So if any coach from now on says a player is so versatile they can play x position that means suddenly they're going to be the long term option?

Basically everything I've heard, read or seen suggests Carlaw will be at Wynumn. Hey maybe he might play centres after all, for the Seagulls.

No, but considering we're actively looking to fill Inglis' spot, and the fact that he even considered Carlaw, that tells me that he doesn't just want to put Carlaw in the centre's during Origin.[/quote:1etfercm]

Not really, coaches can refer to a player being able to play a position and say they wouldn't rule it out if the need arises(which can be taken out of context when there is a spot open by the media to make a story from it which IMO is the case and often as the case it turns out to be bogus). That doesn't mean his being considered in the frontrunners for the longterm position and if he is a frontrunner for the centre position, why does he publically state in interviews there is a lot of competition for first grade spots and he realistically expects to spend the majority of his time playing for Wynnum in the Queensland Cup, sounds more like the deal his made with the Broncos is performance based rather then a certainty.

Geeze, talk about a storm in a tea cup.

Where did he say Carlaw will be playing centre?

To me it just seemed like the media lead him on with a question, looking for an ambiguous answer to write a story around. 'Carlaw played well in the centres over in the England, could we see him there for the Broncos?' 'Yeah, nah, mate, who knows, not going to rule anything out. You can't discount it, he is big and quick'.

Listening to Carlaw's interview on the official webite, he didn't sound that confident at all of playing first grade.

Also what do you expect Henjak to say? "Nah, f**k that, Carlaw is a s**t player, we just bought him because we could." I suspect the interview went along the same lines as m1c said and it's perfectly alright for Henjak to at least consider it given he played there in the ESL.

Seriously, sports fans really know how to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

After seeing Tunza and Gillett at 5/8 under Henjak, nothing would surprise me...
didn't Tunza play at 5/8 under Bennett as well? eusa_think

he certainly did... IIRC, Stagg played at 5/8 under Bennett as well
That may be so, but it's questionable whether there was any better option at the time, unlike both cases under Henjak... [icon_shru

Here we go again...

Hunt wasn't ready in 2009. Carroll started the game to preserve Glenn.

Norman wasn't ready, wasn't Gillett's first time at five eigth (even at NRL level) and he didn't even play the full game there. In hindsight Hunt should've played, but the majority wanted Norman which turned out to be a dud move.

Fk playing any forward in the centers. Get Beau Champion.

If he came to the Broncos I would be tempted to make him a keeper in VRL, just because I would be so excited about it.

+1 he would be very handy for us and by the looks of it wouldn't be overpriced either. I really hope we get him tbh.

Very doubtful considering Parramatta are keen for him with a rumoured contract of at least 300k, can't see him leaving Sydney for less or the same amount as that contract.

Considering Hodges and his track record with injuries I would say having someone like Beau Champion in the team would be good, having two make-shift centres for even 5 games of the year wouldn't be a good thing, considering it usually comes down to one game that decides if you make the finals. We have a crapload of cap space, which if isn't going to be used THIS year then handing out a one year contract won't hurt when it's a position we could likely struggle in this year.

If it's 300k he can get stuffed lol.

He fulfills a very important requirement in my coaching book, to wit: he isn't a fkn forward pitchforked into a role that requires lateral defense, defensive reads, passing and like, speed. I would have Steve Michaels back in a heartbeat in front of Glenn, Teo, Carlaw etc.

Steve Michaels [icon_lol1. Lateral defense, defensive reads were never a strongpoint of Michaels time at the Broncos in the centres and besides backrowers playing centre and vice versa and being successful there has been common throughout the history of the game and as the game has progressed as become more commonplace nor do you need speed or passing skills to be successful there as shown by the likes of Chris Johns,Tonie Carroll and Michael Devere. Theres absolutely no justication in getting into a bidding war over a player like Beau Champion when the club has plenty of depth available at the club for the centres, money is better spent going to the market in a position thats actually needed for the following seasons or retaining quality juniors and experienced players at the club.

Yep happy to see a junior put there and left there as well. I don't believe in weakening our forwards to create makeshift, mediocre centres. Johns and Carroll may not have won many 100 meter footraces but they were explosive enough, and De Vere was as solid in defense as you could want. Utilities sometimes make good centres, like Berrigan, but I just hate seeing the likes of Gillett and Glenn being wasted out there.

No thats fair enough mate though to be honest I don't think Glenn would be wasted because if his not playing in the centres his going to end up being on the bench as a utility but in Gillett's or Te'os case thats understandable but still if the need came about they could still slot in especially depending on what happen's with Gillett because there has been talk of plans for Gillett to be playing in the backrow fulltime soon which could mean Te'o may end up elsewhere in the side, I just think at the end of the day we have enough depth to cover the centres even in the worse case situation, I think we would be better waiting and see what opportunities come about on the market or if we need to retain key players.
