Hodges' hit on Morris under NRL scrutiny

Really I think Hodges deserves some play for putting some kind of end to the most overrated winger going around's season.

Am I the only person who watches league that can see that Hodges can't actually play Rugby League?

ahh morris got up and played on? didnt even leave the field?

Then hodges didn't do his job. If NSW wants to win a game, this is one person they need to lose. I have never seen a winger make so many fundamental mistakes and do the wrong thing on plays more than this guy

Besides which, Morris was hurt before that incident.

Yes. But then you're the only person who watches league that thinks George Rose is a good player (I assume).

nope, not I.

A prime example of Morris in ineptitude was in the game against your blokes, when Cooper threw the ball to exactly where Morris should have been, but Morris was about 10 metres back, picking up a 4 leaf clover or something. Origin showed how poor he was too, poor defensive reads and offers nothing in attack, because he doesn't understand other players games.

Ever since he lost his brother as centre, he has been poor

Doesn't help he's a daddy's boy. Disgraceful how daddy came out and labelled Hodges a grub. "Leave my boy alone"....

Glass houses Coxy, don't forget what Lockyers mum said.

But yeah i agree

What a load of ####.

Watch the replay again and it's clear Morris was trying to get up to play on. Morris even said so after the game. But of course, you know better than Brett Morris himself, right?

he did try to get up, but with a fractured leg its gonna be a bit hard. he tried, didnt make it, and just stayed on the ground. he was injured for all to see, and just because he tried to get up doesnt mean its fair game. when dallas johnson/nate myles are stumbling around the field after being knocked out, falling to their knees every 2 seconds, you wouldnt pass them the ball and tell them to do a hit-up would you? you can see theyre injured. same thing here - we could see he was injured, an no amount of him trying to get up changes the fact that he clearly wasnt going anywhere.

This is a dumb argument. It happened, the NRL didn't care, move on. Jesus.

Nup, you're deadset 100% wrong on this one. For a start, his leg wasn't broken, it was a high ankle sprain. Second, nobody "passed him the ball", he caught it. The whistle hadn't gone. He had attempted to play on. Hodges was entitled to make a tackle. It's not his job to play nice. If you're on the field injured, be prepared to get hurt.

Do you think NSW should've gone easy on Willie Tonga when he played on with an obviously injured shoulder in Origin 1? No.
Do you think NSW should've gone easy on Bob Lindner when he played on with a broken leg in the 80s? No.
Do you think St George should've been nice to Locky because he had a cheek injury? No.

Morris wasn't unconscious. It wasn't a neck injury. He was fair game.

The question shouldn't be "If this was Locky on the ground would you feel different?" It should be "If it wasn't Hodges who made the tackle, Would AP feel different?"

^^^ This.

I mean FFS, I'm normally the first to sink the boot into Hodges for doing something stupid, grubby or cheap, but I have absolutely no drama whatsoever with this. Surely that's a barometer for much of a non-issue it is! :P

nope, i dont care who it was. it couldve been Lockyer/Slater/Smith/Thurston/anyone in the QLD/Broncos/Cowboys/Titans team and i would feel the same way. that it was hodges doesnt surprise me though.

his attempt to play on was attempt to stand up once, didnt even remotely work, so then roll around on the ground in pain for a bit while a teammate signals the referee to call time off lol.

yes, hodges was entitled to make a tackle - for the thousandth time i am NOT disputing that. he had every right to do it. what i dont like is the type of tackle that he did under the circumstances. everyone knew morris was injured, creagh was signalling to the ref, yet hodges sped up and put in the cheap sandow "shoulder charge to a downed player" tackle, knowing full well that even a finger on him wouldve had the same effect.

on your last point - if it WAS a neck injury, and he was on the ground unconscious, would you still say hodges was entitled to make a tackle and that its fair game?

again, just so i get my point across - he did nothing illegal, had every right to make a tackle. but the way he went about it was pretty disgraceful.

I think it all stems from AP being upset that it wasn't a player like Farrah on the ground who deserves this kind of treatment

That's just it, "disgraceful" is a ridiculous word to use. There was nothing "disgraceful" about it.
If Morris was motionless on the ground unconscoius, I doubt Hodges would've even put a hand on him.
