Hodges on report

So how does that work, he misses the 2 origin games, and the broncos matches in between origin are also counted towards the suspension?

The only good to come of this will be a fresher Hodges in the run to the finals

I don't think the Origin games would be counted? Would him being suspended stop him being eligibile to be selected all together for it to count?

Thats probably right, so just count the club matches, we'll be right, as long as Locky/Wallace/Ennis are still on the park.

Although, when Bennett was coaching QLD, I think he used to pick suspended Broncos so it counted. So I don't know.

There was a loop hole once, the Broncos did it with Lote, he got suspended for a week so they named him in the Broncos team for the week end, which allowed him to play in the SOO the following Wednesday.... or something like that. can't do it anymore though.

It wouldn't make a difference anyway. Players selected for Origin miss out on the round just before it, and players not selected for Origin miss out on Origin. Either way, he'll miss the same amount of games...

I remember that, QLD neglected to name him though, which meant that he could serve his suspension with the Broncos then be a late inclusion in the QLD team.

It wont happen with Hodgo, no chance.

Pretty sure it was Carroll. Qld left a spot in the side as TBC as players named in Origin are ineligible to be named for their club, so Broncos 'picked' him, which counted as his suspension, so on the following Monday Qld confirmed he was their TBC.

I am pretty sure the wording of suspensions is "__ weeks or rounds", not games; therefore if rep matches happen to also fall in those weeks then bad luck - you miss them too. I'm in 2 minds as to the fairness of this - on one hand it seems you get a more severe suspension because of the stage of the season you commit the offense, but on the other hand, maybe the rep players should be held to a higher standard (for want of a better phrase)

I think that Hodgo was handed the much higher charge simply because Piggy stayed down. It's not Hodgo's fault that all that weight landing on his neck forced him to stay down! If that was Preston Campbell he would've got far less!

They've closed that TBA loophole I think.

And Origin wouldn't count as an extra game in his suspension anyway. Unlike an end of season rep matches Hodges would've played the same number of games whether he was selected for Origin or not.

I just watched the match replay.

Hodges's "flip" on Riddell was - as others have said, stupid and careless, and also negligent given the NRL views on lifting type tackles.

It was also in back-play which probably makes it worse.

However, IMO, he simply flipped him up and didn't drive him into the turf. Still very bad, but when you look at Hayne's tackle on Carroll - after the whistle had gone - he lifted him and drove him into the ground.

IMO, Hayne should also have been given a Grade 3 Charge. But then - he's from NSW isn't he.

Jesus. Far too harsh, he didn't fall on his head.

Very easily could've and been paralysed.

Grade 3 utterly fair. It was unnecessary and stupid. Broncos can take their chances trying to get a downgrade. 8 weeks would be a fair result IMO.

Plenty of tackles get away with far less, that could do much more damage.

Examples?

I don't want to see Hodgo banned for nearly two months but he stuffed up and now will pay the price.

And so will his team

imagine if someone had of performed the tackle on hayne as he did on carroll. he would be still laying on the turf at suncorp, they would have had to put witches hats on the ground around him so the socceroos game could go ahead.
