Works for Gallen.
gallen came back and hasnt been rubbish. plus he was in the world cup winning side and hodges was not. therefore all he has to do is keep his place, not win one.
So how did he keep the spot last year when Parker was better than him?
Realistically, apart from a wage bumper to some deserving Bronco players, it's win/win for the club when there's less rep players selected. It's not that their skill level goes down because they weren't selected, but their risk of injury certainly diminishes. Just ask Luke Lewis.
We have been so accustomed to losing half our team(sometimes more) to the Australian/NZ/SOO teams for so long, that we forget the benefits of not making those teams.
Also, it's worth remembering the debacle of (faux?) injuries this time last year with the City/Country game. I wonder how many of the 'unavailable' Kiwi stars conveniently decided their niggling injuries needed a rest for next weekend, based on the irrelevancy of the Test - I'm sure they know how it's going to play out.
Hey the Kiwis could win it but at what cost to the player's clubs? And for what? I'm sure the pride level of securing a Kiwi jumper compared to the Green and Gold is remarkably different since the World Cup. Especially for Hoffman who has nothing but bad memories in terms of non-selection, media scrutiny and family disputes. I reckon he'd be right to rest that in-grown nasal hair based on his last Kiwi outing (no disrespect intended, I seem to remember a troublesome leg injury). Glenn too, for similar and different reasons, but also out of loyalty to his mate, potentially.
All speculation, of course. I for one am happy that Sam and Georgie (Porgie) Parker made the cut. Sam because we have shown we can do without him, and parker because he completely deserves it, and is so durable. Gillett at 18th man is also the absolute best outcome for the Broncos; he gets the training and team experience (plus cash) without the chance of an in-game injury, knowing he would be playing at his absolute best and beyond.
