Hypothetical new coach in 2011?

I just think Sheens is a myth, Tigers are lucky to be in the position they are and have just as poor defence as the Broncos.

What's wrong with Tim Sheens? He's had the worst forward pack in the comp for the past 5 years yet the Tigers are always competitive. Only this year his pack has started to really develop. Heighington and Ellis have had their best seasons ever, Gibbs is not shit any more, and Andrew Fifita has been a machine off the bench. No wonder they are doing better.

Yep they have an epic pack of forwards all of a sudden, Galloway, Payten, Gibbs, Fifita is a scary prop rotation full of hard work and aggression and as you said Heighington and Ellis have been great as well. Fulton and Flanaghan also add more work and versatility to it, I would say they have a better pack than backline which is a bizarre statement when talking about a West Tigers side.

^^^ This. He depends entirely on having a good squad of players. His game plan at the Raiders was "go out and do what you do". Easy to do with guys like Meninga, Daley, Stuart, Clyde, Lazarus, Belcher, Mullins etc.

It's no surprise when he went to the Cowboys he was useless.
No surprise in seasons at the Tigers with a poor squad and Marshall injured he's done SFA.

He's a poor coach who's managed to get his hands on good teams.

I was never a fan of Henjak ... and wish he was sacked tomorrow ... the bad streaks of form are off the charts bad. Agree whole-heartedly with above poster about him just being a WB henchman who provides more of the same without the aura.

Today's game, mainly due to the salary cap, is all about motivation from the coach. The teams are so even across the board its crazy. Tipping comps prove that. Henjak has neither the personality (from afar admittedly) nor the resume to provide the presence needed in commanding respect from some of our games elite players. And despite our season this year he is likely to have 5 or 6 walk up test players to motivate next year.

Its all old news now, but once again I feel the need to regurgitate the old chestnut ... we should have thrown whatever was required at Bellamy. Is the best coach in the game. blah blah blah.

The talk in this thread about Mal Meninga is laughable. He is a great man, but a 44 week season coach he is not. This would just be the worst disaster imaginable. Assistant Coach perhaps, Head Coach ... take your hand off it.

Terry Matterson is very interesting indeed. And I would applaud his appointment. 2 year contract max. Has no experience in the NRL and this is the only concern. He is far removed and has some experience from overseas appointments. Would rather he was head coach at another NRL coach first, and then came to us, but thats probly asking too much.

I would support Ricky Stuart on a shortish term basis. 2 year deal with a 1 year option or similar. Thats about the time it usually takes his demanding style of coaching to wear thin. But he is an excellent motivator seemingly and speaks so highly of his players its like listening to Gai Waterhouse talking about her horses.

Be a great time for Ricky Stuart to take over in my view. Might be 2 premierships in the bank.

Left field ... (really left field) ... I'd love to see them interview and interview again that Brian McLennan (sp?) kiwi coach ... that would be an interesting one ... I'm unsure about it, but if he can keep the kiwi side on the straight and narrow, god knows what he could do with us. Can we pinch John Cartwright from the coast ?

Oink !

Cartwright is a decent coach but I would hate for him to be a Bronco coach and continually whinge about refs and how his team is hard done by. In short the bloke is a bigger knob than Rocky.

+1.

I still feel the Tigers in general are a myth. They throw the ball around and what not, but unfortunately that won't win premierships (most of the time). Sure you can say 'but they did it in '05,' bu the game has changed a lot since then.

I dunno why people are using Stuarts lack of recruitment at the sharks as a reason not to sign him.

It's not like the Sharks were an attractive proposition before Stuart arrived? Not sure why people can't see that?
Sharks made the top 4 in 2008 and he decided to give noddy and de gois the flick while signing backrower after backrower, a mistake that has cost them dearly the last couple of seasons.

Stuart would be great for us, particularly if he gets the job as Origin coach for NSW. [icon_lol1.

I'd like to think that after this years effort Henjak will keep his job.

He's still learning the ropes, and if he is indeed a good coach he will learn from the mistakes he made this year.

What about Steve Folkes?

He had a very good record with the Dogs

I just really don't think Ivan deserves to go at this point IMO. If we don't make the 8 next season sure send him away but this year we finished probably higher than most thought and we had a lot of injuries and a young squad.

I agree with Beads, it would be harsh to sack him after two years, that would not be the Broncos club I have supported if they did that. Particularly in light of the squad he had this year and the injuries. He should at least be given next year to prove himself with a more seasoned squad and hopefully less injuries.

Agreed. Though no doubt there are concerns about him. As there were with Bennett back in 1991!

There is always concerns over the coach though, Bennett had his issues every year. I think Bruno rooted the club a bit by offering Ivan a 2 year extension at the start of this season. A 1 year extension yes but 2 was to much IMO.

I think it'd be stupid to get rid of henjak now.

- noone gave us a hope in hell before the season began of even making the finals. We missed out by 1-2 wins.
- we lose our 2nd biggest name player for the season before a single game has been played.
- we've got the youngest team in the competition by a country mile, if not the youngest team that has ever competed week in week out in the NRL/ARL/NSWRL.
- we had just about our worst injury toll we've ever had, losing like 8 players within the first few weeks.
- we lost Lockyer for the last what, 4 weeks? Take the main player out of any team and they'll struggle, especially one of Lockyers calibre.
- we've got the least creative halfback in the competition, so when the pressure was on him to get us points we just couldn't and it cost us matches.
- it's only the coaches second year

Dropping him now would be stupid, he's barely even had a chance.
