I’m only 10 minutes in but so far Tesi’s involvements have been a botched certain try at 1:30, a standard kick return, and a turn over of possession at 9 minutes. I know the eventual score line (don’t know the try scorers) so I assume he gets better but it’s been a rocky start.

edit:

Had a good line break pushing through for the offload.

Was at A defender 10m out and avoided direct contact, ended up being dragged to the in-goal and conceding a try.

Dropped it cold on a standard 3rd tackle hit up on own 25m line

Second half and Niu has been shifted to right wing - Kuola to fullback. This was likely a planned move rather than a demotion.

Really terrible half for Niu outside of that line break.

I’m interested to see how he goes on the wing, I’ve said before that becoming a dependable winger is imo his only chance of a career in the NRL but because how small he is he will need to become extremely hard working, like a Utai, To’o, or Thompson.

Non-existent 2nd half. Kuola looked great at fullback.
A typical forgettable performance by Niu. Still am yet to see anything from him to suggest he’s an NRL player.

They are showing international games all day today on Kayo for anyone that is interested - including the 2007 test match which I've been trying to track down for a while. That one is on at 7pm.

Watching the live stream of the World Cup launch event.

Is it being held in a barn or something?

The more I look at it the more I like NZ's chances of winning the WC.

They've got easily the best spine I've seen from a NZ side, and maybe the best forward pack too. A front row rotation made up of JFH, Leota, Tapine, JWH, NAS and Bromwich is nuts. Maybe they'll play CNK at fullback so Manu can sure up their centres.

Is there a thread somewhere specifically for World Cup discussion that I'm missing?

I really enjoyed the English commentators on the Aus v Fiji match this morning. It's refreshing to see them call the game without any bias - just calling what is happening. No discussion about calls being wrong, or things being missed and trying to create drama like the Channel 9 and Fox commentators here.

It’s one of the reasons I enjoy the Super League and Q Cup more these days. They will complain at times but they generally respect the ref and move on with the call. They also are not as openly affiliated with certain clubs there and, far far less gambling ads!

Wait until you hear those same blokes commentate an English game where they aren't flogging someone.

For those interested, NRL have been uploading highlights of classic Test matches. They have a few up there already from late 80's, early 90's.

ET was a nightmare for Offiah in this match. Came up with two good try savers with both times Offiah making a break down the sideline and ET managing to push him over the sideline before scoring.

has anyone seen any of the wheelchair rugby league.

this is crazy, sort of like OzTag but in wheelchairs and more physical. I'm keen to actually check out a full game, might have to fire up Kayo.

if you haven't see it here are the highlights of the Australia vs France semi-final

That is fucking awesome. "Whoah that player has some... wheels".

These calls for Samoa to be promoted to Tier 1 are ridiculous.

They have one good campaign and now everyone is calling for it. Prior to the WC, they had only won 2 of their previous 10 games and their win against England was their first ever win against a Tier 1 side. Their previous games against them resulted in Samoa getting flogged.

They need to show maintained success and show they can be competitive against other Tier 1 sides regularly before they should even be considered.
