Is Darren Lockyer the greatest player of all time?

Johns is dominating that poll.

I voted Lewis.

I voted Lockyer. Narrowly edges out Alfie for mine.

The best I have ever been able to see week in week out. There is an argument for Lewis but I am not old enough to know better.

As far as I have seen, I can't split Locky and Alfie.

Obviously I know Wally is the greatest ever, but I have only really seen him in Origin games (watched recorded copies on VCR) so I honestly don't think I can judge as he retired when I was 7.

Alfie and Locky are just so similar in terms of ability and leadership. They have always had cool heads on tough shoulders and had the same ability to come up with the big play when it was needed. Maybe Locky just edges him out because of all the last minute things he did to win games for us, Queensland and Australia.

See them walk out onto the field, there is no jumping around, clapping the hands and yelling come on boys, they just sum up the situation and wait to release the energy after the whistle blows. I'm not saying it's no good to be fired up, but that just typifies those two players to me - they just want their football to do the talking, and they back it up with great attention to detail on the field.

In voting in the poll, Lockyer, just over Langer.

IMO:

1. Lewis
2. Lockyer
3. Langer/Johns

Best Broncos player of all time.. so yes.

Lockyer is leading the poll over Johns by 6% currently.

Oh, and I'd have put Webcke in the poll before Tallis.

Probably for another subject, but is it just me, or has Webcke received pretty much no recognition whatsoever since his retirement? It's as if the media have forgotten about him.

We've been blessed to see so many brilliant players at the Broncos.

In terms of ability to win his team a game despite not necessarily having the help around him all the time I have never seen any one who can carry sides like Johns could. However, Lockyer could and did play with who he had around him and he made 99% of them even better than they may have been otherwise. Also the longevity of Lockyer is peerless and the fact that last year was one of his better ones in recent times shows just how good he still is. Then there is his performances in rep games, consistently he has been in the top 4-5 players game after game and often the MOTM (whether awarded or not) whether it be for QLD or NSW.

What a legend and with out a shadow of doubt the greatest player I have ever watched, I will enjoy this year so much more now knowing I am savoring the last games of this footballing genius.

This. He was an absolute legend. Probably because he works for the rivals.

The poll needs to define "modern era" better.

For mine Lewis is the greatest player I have ever seen play, but I don't consider him to be a player of the modern era - it has been almost 20 years since he retired (same goes for Mal, don't think he belongs in the poll either due to the era thing).

When it comes to the modern era, if I take sentiment out of it completely and was 100% honest, I'd have to say Johns just edges Lockyer (as much as it pains me to say it).

I had similar thoughts to you Flutterby, however due to longevity I think Locky has now eclipsed Johns as the best player of the 'modern' era.

Lockyer is/was the best in the world in 2 positions, had a minor off field indescretion, awesome on field demeanour to both players and offcials and did all this without being on drugs

this.

Langer my runner-up.

Then daylight.

Then Daley, Fittler and Johns.

Yes, Lewis would make my top 5 if I was 5 years older and grew up with league in the early 80s, rather than the late 80s/early 90s when the King's shadow was fading.
