Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

The thing I have with Maranta is that when he plays a good solid NRL standard winger's game he gets talked up as having a "great game". Whereas someone like Jason Nightingale or Josh Mansour does the same thign every week.

I come back to my point from earlier in this thread, Nightingale and Mansour are both international wingers, Maranta is not, using them as your comparison point invalidates your argument.

Maranta needs to stop reading the forums.

He Gets Tries With A Little Help From His Friends - Broncos

108m this week. A one on one trysaver and couple of line breaks/ tackle breaks and the Milf try assist. Dropped an uncontested higball though. I cannot say I was sure he would stop that try but he did (At least until the next play when there were no centres or wingers home).

It's a little ironic. But If he doesn't make the one-on-one try saver tackle. He would have actually saved the try. Should have let him waltz on by then the video ref could have looked at the knock-on. And resulted in a no try.

thought it was a terrific tackle though And a very solid performance from him. He's doing a job for us at the moment And just getting it done.

That bomb looked huge though. I'd love to see something like the cricket where it shows how high bombs are going.

Just in case you were wondering, LM is currently equal second in tries scored for the season with 4. Curtis Rona leading with 6.

at least he's not bombing the simple ones this year ... next step is taking half chances and turning them into tries

Yep he keeps improving all the time, he is one break out three try performance from stardom. ;)

Ask some around here and Maranta's tries won't count. They were scored within 20m of the try line and there were no aerodynamics....no handstands above the touchline.......and no one handed put downs behind his head.

All in all ...Mehhh, sorry Lachie, you'll need to do better than that.

I'll let out a secret... I'm a big fan, not because of his ability but because of his attitude, as a supporter I find it hard to not like him, compared to say Norman who I found it easy to hate on and was wishing every week that the round 13 deadline would pass without him changing his mind.

Maranta is one of those players I just really like. He never sooks, he's happy to play anywhere, and by all reports has a great attitude on and off the field.

As hesitant as he is, I think he's got potential to be a pretty handy player once he gains confidence.

His support play at fullback for that try was just brilliant, the only player at our club who I could see doing something Similar would be Boyd. Kahu is awesome in his own right, but Maranta, as numpty as his mistakes can be, seems to be smarter than he's given off so far.

All in all, while I'd happily take Gagai and Kahu over him, I'm still happy he's at our club.

As good as Hoffman is as a winger, I'd still prefer Maranta because Hoffman is a cry baby like Norman was who up and left because they couldn't get their preferred position even when they clearly weren't the best choice.

I also don't buy Maranta is the worst winger in the game, he's very safe under the high ball, from what I've seen so far is good and defence (that tackle was pretty awesome) and is serviceable in attack, the fact that he's not a liability automatically places him above the worst wingers, and with some confidence, if he can get better in attack, at the very least he's a very good depth option.

Guys like Parker, McGuire, Gillett, Maranta, Hodges, they're all players I have respect for because they seem as passionate as the fans about winning each game.

/Random late night thought.

Well said.

As much as it would seem to be the opposite, I also have nothing but respect for Lachlan, for the same reasons Spwn mentions above.

I'm glad he had a good game at fullback, which I always have seen as his best position, even if he still lacks the finishing touch so many others have innately. And no, it has nothing to do with "aerobatics", as I couldn't give a rats arse about how he puts the ball down, as long as he does. Just mentioning this before the usual sarcastic comment rises its head...

I am another with nothing but respect for Maranta. He is a reliable, hard working depth option for us...

It really is a shame that he doesn't have the talent that a dickhead like Ferguson has.

I'm a big maranta fan. I love his attitude and people overlook how important his defensive work is

It's weird in some ways, I always thought Reed was okay and felt like people maligned him unfairly but given he 'worked on his speed' over the off season and his demonstrated lack of speed when in the open in our most recent game it has me joining the chorus to have him dropped. The weird bit is seeing Maranta who was similarly maligned converting opinions of his value to a point where he has earned many fans respect . I don't think Maranta worked on anything specifically in the off season, more like he kept up his own high expectations. He must be a determined character and I'll take a team full of them any day. I must add, I always liked Maranta, I always thought he was trying.

I am also in the Maranta admirer's group. I have always admired someone that may not necessarily have the same level of natural skills or abilities but is prepared to work their tail off to achieve a position or goal. Parker has always struck me as this type of player.

Whilst I know we are all entitled to our opinion, I just can't quite seem to reconcile that Fourex is a Maranta fan but a Wallace hater. Maranta is like the Peter Wallace of wingers!
